SubjectConverting .pss (PS2 video)? new Reply to this message

It'd be nice to get 8 minutes of video down from 400MB to something more reasonable. Any relatively automatic way to convert .pss (which is MPEG-2 video + PS2 ADPCM audio, I guess? MPC plays it, anyway) to XviD + Vorbis or something more lightweight?

I'll play around with it tomorrow.

Shutokou Battle 01, Kaido Battle 2 Chain Reaction, Kaido Battle Touge no Densetsu, Wangan Midnight, Battle Gear 3, Rumble Roses, NanoBreaker, Silpheed, Mega Man X8... the list goes on.

Probably Ace Combat 5 and Zero too if I could figure out how movie.pac is stored.

Kickass, thanks! Right now I'm mostly interested in getting the intro to NanoBreaker down to something reasonable. I might like to do the intro movies from the Kaido Battle games as well.

I just played around a bit and converted the intros to Silent Line: Armored Core and Ys VI. Just used PSSplex to demux the PSS files, threw them in VirtualDubMod, and encoded them up. Silent Line I trimmed out the black bars and Ys VI I left 'em in (lazy!)

Also extracted the intro to Monster Hunter, but I'm pretty sure I screwed something up along the way since I'd never done that before (Gotta transform the sfd to mpeg and then encode)

..but yea, I'm not sure how to use OGG for audio in VirtualDub. Generally I do some hacky xvid+mp3 in virtualdub or I'll just do an outright mp4 in Nero Recode

Ah, cool, PSSPlex was the thing I was looking for. Unfortunately it gets an Overflow error trying to de-multiplex NanoBreaker's intro. Hmm.

Well, that and thanks for the heads up on VirtualDubMod, since regular VirtualDub won't deal with MPEG-2 stuff.

Aren't there a ton of Dreamcast-ripping related utilities for dealing with .sfd files?

Don't have Nero Recode. Playing around with the intro to Wangan Midnight now in VDubMod with ffdshow to see what kind of results I can get.

Shoot me an AIM message and hook me up with that file so I can play with it :)

Yep, but I may have screwed up somehow anyway. I found a CLI-based sfd2mpg that allows you to specify which encoder you want to use for the audio and I just left it as MP2 before going to MP3 in VirtualDubMod..I want to see if going to mp3 via lame on the command line yields any noticable differences.

What a shitty format, btw.

There's a free 30 day trial that I strongly recommend using. It's the balls out easiest to use mp4 encoder out there. I liked it enough that I bought it instead of cracking it.

Nanobreaker Intro

I dunno, what do you think? Throw more bits at it?

Not bad, actually, just tried it fullscreen. It beats my experiments with x264 on other stuff so far at seemingly similar filesize/min. Then again, I have no idea what I'm doing around a video editor most of the time.

Ahh, definitely some top notch entertainment there. How'd you get it to work? Or was it just my system being gay with PSSPlex?
