It's a known issue I'd guess stemming from two problems. One it's a game coded by the japanese and we know how R and L is there. But mostly the mic on the older DS is a bit on the odd side with sensitivity...so range from the mic is important. I personally never had it die. Also, Big Brain Academy is pretty damn nice, nicer in some ways for sure.
