following the usual trend, i need advice on my diet.

I want to try some different beers, but i donīt want to waste my money, so.. any advices ?

I heard belgium beers are good, are they ? They are selling Stella at a liquor store nearby, and not soooo expensive ? Is it worth my money ?

Guiness is any good ?
Labbatt ? Labbatt blue ?

Also, i want some advice on some german beers, i have a friend that is watching the world cup, and he is gonna bring me a few cans of beer, what is good ?

I like Lager (Heineken, Carlsberg, etc)
and pilsen (Polar, Boehmia, etc)

SOOOOO, what to do... what to do...

i thinking to get a box full of Heinekens, getting wasted, and while wasted decide to get me more beers, and a german slut..
how does that sound ?
i donīt like blondes, but my girl has a german friend that is BEAUTIFUL! soo....

But if you like lager, you might like it. It's not worth extra money over any other beer.
I used to like the 3.4% ABV Heineken, but now that it's all 5% (at least in the UK), I'm not a big fan.
If you can get Carling, that's worth a try.
Guinness is a very different taste (closer to bitter than lager, but not quite so bitter) - and is smoother from a proper beer pump than from a can. I like it.

I guess it depends on what you have available. Given a choice, I go for Guinness (even from a can, it's silky smooth), or Carling, but I'll stoop to Fosters if I have to.

I've heard good things about Starprommen (spelling might be off) and Hoegarden ... but can't see the attraction myself.

Buy a can/bottle of each type of beer you can. Drink cold, from a cool or cold glass. Bear in mind that every beer after the 6th will taste fantastic.
Belgian beers are (generally) good - as are Czech, and a lot of Eastern European beers.

Anybody ever have a german lagger called Wersteiner? Only flavor of german beer i ever had, and i thought it was damn good.

I've been wanting to get a taste of guinness for a whyle, but it's kinda pricey over here. (about 7-8 times the price of a regular national brew)

All work and no play makes me..., well, you know the rest.

Both are pilsener type of beers, so they taste similar. Quite light, and easy to drink. I personally like it but some may find it a bit too light.

Bought some Stella last night, really good beer. Kinda sour, but good. Me likes it.

About germans : Wersteiner is the only suggestion so far, any other ideas ? I will be getting some Guiness (DK : Guiness will cost me about R$3,00 a can. Its selling for R$13,00 here, so its a good save, heh), from my beer guy in Germany, hopefully the Guiness in German is as good as Guiness in UK.

Corona is easy to get here, so i won't be getting that again. And besides, corona is really light, good for a summer day. Like Quilmes (and apparentely Labbatt, according to Newsdee), so i will pass on it now, sinc its winter here.

I will try to get some Blue Moon, snow, but i have never even heard of it, so it might be tough.

There's a local brew called Coruja (www.cervejacoruja.com.br) that has 0% conservatives on it, it only lasts like 10 days, but its really good.

Maybe i will get some german Carlsberg to see if its any different than ours.

Anyway, more suggestions, please!

I've been on a real Chimay kick lately since the weather's been warming up. I'm usually a Guinness guy, so don't care much for lagers, pilsners, etc., but few things beat a cold Chimay Red on a 110degF day. They're pretty similar to red ales and have a slight fizz to them.

Incidentally, each one of those is between about 6 to 9% depending on which one you get (and I seem to remember that they have one that's around 12%), so the bang for the buck is good.

Subjectyou can't go wrong with an belgian abbey ale new Reply to this message

Chimay is one of the 6 trappist abbey brewery. I can say that all of them offers excellent brews. There's only one I haven't tasted to far, Westleveren (something like that) because it's damn hard to find and is often cited to brew the best beer in the world, the 10. As for me, the Trappiste Rochefort 10 must be the best I've ever tasted. Take my word for it, I've tasted hundreds of brews and that one is outstanding. At the beginning of the month, I went to montreal's mondial de la bičre, a beer fest, and tasted over 50 different beers, yeah, I love beer, good beer. Remember when I traveled down to florida, it was a beer trip eh!

The chimay red is my favorite one of the chimays, nice pick. In the trappist beers, I'd also recommend the Westmalle Triple.

Other than that, it's really just a matter of what you can get where you live. We have some really nice micro breweries here in Quebec, there's quite a few gems there, but you won't be able to buy one of them unfortunately.

Try to stay away from lagers and pilsners, 99% of those are horse piss. Ales, that's the way to go. Then, try different styles to see what you like. Weizen, bock, IPA, stout, abbey triple, etc...

Last minute suggestions: Duvel, Mort Subite framboise, Dogfish head 90 minutes IPA, Paulaner hefe weissbier, Samichlaus Bier.

> Dogfish head 90 minutes IPA

Have you had the 120? If not, you should see if you can get your hands on some (last release was in March, but my local shop still had some a couple weeks ago). It's... different. Of course, it's an IPA, so it's bitter and hoppy and citrusy and all that, but it's also twenty one fucking percent, so it's very sweet to boot (lots of sugar to feed the yeast). It's about US$8-10 a bottle, but worth it. A very interesting beer. I bought a six (well, one and five, in case I didn't like it), and am currently keeping the five in my refrigerator for some rainy decade in the future as it "ages well" (says so on the label... come to that, I could do the same with the 60 and the 90, too, kind of a comparison). Part of me wants to go back and get more, but another part is saying "No, you jackass, let somebody else have some." We'll see.

Actually, we can't get any of their beers here. Imports are damn hard to get because of some dumb laws we have.

I was lucky enough to taste the 60 minutes at the mondial de la bičre. I haven't tasted the 90 but it's well known. Wish I had a sip of it, and of the 120.

HOPS!
