Proof: I can. Softmodding an xbox is really easy. Here's what I used.

Mechassault, 1st edition with the exploit
USB cable that I wired to an xbox controller plug
USB stick
da software

Got a xenium ice in my xbox though and I couldn't be happier, I make good use of it's features.

They're a waste of money. You just need:

1) Mech Assault (original version), Agent Under Fire, or Splinter Cell (original version)
2) a memory card
3) USB -> Memory Card adaptor

2 and 3 can be had together if you pick up an Action Replay for Xbox and if you're going to buy a game, I'd recommend finding a copy of Splinter Cell since it's the one game out of the three that has a save game exploit AND is actually fun.

What you basically do then is download the save file, copy it to your memory card, copy it to your Xbox Hard Drive, fire up the game, load the save game, and your xbox is now modded. :)

Newer versions of the softmod have all sorts of nice features, like multi-state booting (boot unmodded or modded depending on if your tray is open or closed on bootup) and additional options during the installation. You'll probably want to hook the Xbox up to a router to pull the most recent version of the modded dashboard (woo for autoupdate!).

Subjecti thought that wasn't possible after 1.5 new Reply to this message

The xbox I have is probably about 2 or 3 years old, I bought it brand new and it's never been updated as I have never had xbox live.

I'm going to do this:

Memory card USB mod

That way I only have to buy a used memory card. That and I've been itching to find something to solder with my soldering iron for months now =P

It works fine. The only time your version number matters is if you want to play Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gunvalkyrie, Voodoo Vince, or Jet Set Radio Future in 480p. On anything past 1.3, they won't work

I love the USB light at the end, heh. Just make sure you pick up your Splinter Cell from someplace that'll exchange it for another copy incase you pick up a bad one :)

Mine's a 1.6. The only problem I've had is that the 1.6s have a different graphics chip, so the Gentoox Linux distro doesn't display properly on my TV (it's all overscanned or underscanned or some such shit)

My brother owns it. I'm taking a trip over there today and I'm documenting my modding exploits. Yeehaw!
