Subjectprinter server problem (windows xp) Reply to this message

ok, somewhat of a problem here.

I have here at a work a printer server, the machine is pretty good (P4 HT 3.0 ghz, 1gb ram) running Windows XP Pro SP2.
My problem is, from time to time (sometimes twice or thrice a day) i have to reset the machine, because no other client can print on it, the client gives me a error message, like the server was offline, which isnt, because i can ping on it.

Trying out, i figured out that everytime i canīt print, i also canīt acess the server via Start/Run/, and typing \\printerserver it gives me a error saying that the maximum number of connections is reached and i canīt connect.

Is there a way to see where is this limit, and change it ?

I did a quick googling on it, found a couple of patches, but apparentely they donīt fix this error, just the maximum number of connections that win XP can do to the other machines, not the maximum number of connections that can be received.

anyone have a saying in this matter ?

its somewhat of a big problem for me.

thanks in advance.

SubjectHave you tried using windows server 2003 on that machine? NT Maybe it'll be a better option new Reply to this message

2003 Server will actually solve the problem, for sure.
BUT, the company only uses legal softwares, and unfortunately Win2003 server is expensive, more than what the company can afford to spend right now.
So, i am stuck with Windows XP right (i have licenses for all my machines).

Thatīs why i am looking for a solution in the Windows XP.
My plan is to migrate to Win2003 in Febreuary (if i am still working here by then..)
because January is the most profitable month for the company.

2 Kyoceras KX series multi-function (copier/printer/scanner) and there's no full driver for linux. I need the function in the driver to make me type my password everytime i print, because i need to present a report everymonth to my boss. (everybody has a printing password).
