SubjectI'm dying for new music here new Reply to this message
Posted bySnowball 2

Where in the fuck can I download this stuff? I don't do WinMX. I'm trying to find shit with my newsgroup access but the selection absolutely sucks. I'd be willing to do the pay stuff but I need to be dead sure that they have european techno not the shit they pass off as techno in the states. Anyone have any thoughts?

Yo Ibbo, any suggestions? We're not into the same style cuz I like my cheesey trance but maybe you know where they hide the electronic music on the net? Send me some vinyls, bitch.

ummm

trance?

guess you could get into goa or something like that. otherwise known as psytrance. its big over here.

though we have lord of the rings theme-pubs over here.

so yeah umm... infected mushroom, 1200 micrograms, kazi. its not really big on sing along euro trance vocals, but it has bare amounts (meaning lots in this situation) of buildups, chord progressions and all that other trancey shit.

you are right though, it is not my kind of music, so I don't know that much about it. I guess you could always try out dubstep, thats pretty urban and stuff. its pretty slow (for me at least) but very bassy, good for pretending you have street connections or something. but yeah umm. don't bother with whoring across bittorrent or winmx (winmx, win fucking mx? its not 2001 anymore snow, jesus fucking christ, next you'll be asking why audiogalaxy is closed down) for new music as you only tend to download stuff you already know, if you listen to your music through a pc or an ipod you can get all your listening monitored and have new recommendations given to you via last.fm

joffe is registered

as am I

so once you've got your list of reccommendations just jump onto soulseek, get your ports forwarded and be a major music slut. like I am everyday of my thieving life.

i have a myspace because I am actually a 12 year old girl from wisconsin

-edit-

oh shit you said techno didn't you, not trance. I totally heard you saying trance when you said techno. umm.

dave the drummer, roland the bastard. apparently they're quite acid and technoy.

there's always gabba I suppose.

everyone loves gabba.

gabba is fucking brilliant.

the other day I visited the school my mum works at for a section on this radio show I occassionally do and played the kids loads of gabba, 12 and 13 year old kids. they didn't know what the fuck it what was but loved it. I think its somewhere around here

here it is

umm I'm getting a bit sidetracked here. anyway european techno, not wanky detroit underground resistance stuff, hrmm. I guess last.fm is the best way for you.

-another edit-

wait a second, you did say trance, and techno. make up your fucking mind snow, you do realise trance and techno aren't the same thing. umm. I'm kinda showing my fagcore credentials by being so knowledgable about dance music aren't I.

how about you just say what you are into snow

I'm sure everyone's already heard of this:

http://www.di.fm/

It's good for a few different genres, but it's only streaming - there could be a way to buy some of the music you hear, but I've never bothered.

I much enjoy the breakbeats station.

go on wikipedia, read up about dance music genres, go on soulseek, slut around a few artists that they list as particularly good for particular genres.

hey you've just found a new artist.

works for me.

I'm sure there are various apps to do it on the pc, but xbox media center also can record the stream to the harddrive. It even copies all the tags and makes a new file for each new song. Pretty awesome if you just want some random stuff to listen to from a shoutcast stream you like.

Seriously, man...most libraries have pretty decent selections of CDs. Take a laptop with you and just rip shit for a few hours.

but most of the time you'll find a few rare gems, mostly they have crap that's too fucking easy to find. if you're down with jazz, most libraries will save you crazy money, they tend to go batshit with expensive pressings of great jazz albums. good if you like folk music as well. also, the classical selections are pretty fucking good in most libraries.

expect to find a couple albums you didn't think your library would have, probably donations or something someone requested be added to the collection. a few years ago, i found a miranda sex garden album at my local branch that i'd been looking for a way to get for free for a while. ripped that fucker!

I'm sure there are a lot of programs on the pc that can do it. On the xbox, you just start up media center, go to internet radio, choose your stream from a list, then hit B once it connects. As soon as a new song starts, it starts recodring to the hd and copies all the tag info.

There is a shutdown script you can run before you start recording so you don't fill the entire hd with mp3s. Set it for a couple hours, start recording, then come back later and browse through the stuff it saved.
