God no...best overhyped PSX and Final Fantasy game of the lot, yes.

Average story, long winded gameplay, non-skippable aggravating summons/spells, 10x more aggravating non-skippable FMVs usually before bosses left as punishment if you fail. It gets way too much respect for what it did for gaming on the FF series on the whole, does get respect though for bringing more people into caring about FF. Problem is though it allowed a lot of close minded pricks into the fold thinking FF7 is the model of how a good RPG is benchmarked.

Overall I dunno, still very partial to SMB3 due to all the design intricacies of that one, but as far as RPGs go FF4, 5 , and 9 blow out FF7 easy, and beyond that the Dragon's Quest series has been FF's superior as long as you're not adverse to some level grinding.
