SubjectGame review (month?) - the final word new Reply to this message

There's been a few ideas tossed out there so I just want to come to consensus on what people want to do. Reply with what you'd like to happen for each. If you have other suggestions then speak up now.

1. Games we're going to play.

  • Play games from a specific console (ex. PSX June)

  • Play games based on a theme (ex. Flight Simulators)

  • Play games that were released on a given year (ex. games released in 1989)

2. When we plan to start playing them.

  • Start now, end in June

  • Start in June, end in June

we have 3 months, and 3 ways of doing it, why not :

- april : games with a certain theme
- may : games released within a certain year
- june : games for a specific console

i´m up for it, but that´s my idea. But i can choose from each, i have a backlog of games i´ve been wanting to play again, and new stuff to try..

themes, years and consoles may vary from person to person ?

SubjectI'm limited... new Reply to this message

My PC is pretty ghetto, so I can't expect any PSX or N64 emulation to go off without a hitch. And for PC games, I'll be stuck with playing games that are at least pre-1998, if not farther back... (Bought this PC in 1999, haven't done a whole lot of upgrading with it).

I'm personally really leaning towards the Genesis - I'd prefer to have another junkie along for the ride, and I'd be glad to document my shit. "The Genesis Project", or something like that sounds pretty cool.

My only problem is that I have next to no determination when it comes to games. I guess years ago I'd be happy to lose life after life in some annoying area of a game, but now I just don't have the patience. I'm worried I'm going to give up on too many games. I'll take it slow to start - maybe pick up a few of the sonic games - something I'm familiar with - to get warmed up a little. Then take on some of the games I've never tried. With the Genesis, there's a whole whack of them...

but I'm sure we could hook you up with connectix VGS + winxp patch. It should run fine on relatively meager pc specs and its pretty compatible (although its FMV support is hackish... either it must change screen color depth because the psx is only 16bit color or you have to run the FMV dithered at reduced quality at 16bpp rather than 24bpp). Regardless it still allows older comps to get decent psx emulation.

I get bored with games quick. I especially have trouble getting into games from old systems as I think my tastes have moved on to the current gen offerings. Don't start playing something you know you'd have to invest time and energy to try and enjoy. You'll end up hating it. Hell, pop in a game, play for an hour, take a few pictures and tell us why you can't stand the shit. That's how I did my Tomba review.

Man, I'm finally towards the end of Okami and I can't fucking wait to beat it so that I can move on to better things. There was a bit there a while ago where it got really good out of nowhere but it's back to being even more repetitive and dull than it was earlier (if you can believe it).

Come this weekend, I'll be playing something else, thank god.

Subjectthat can handle psx and n64 emulation.. new Reply to this message

if you have 256mb or more ram, and a geforce2 or better card. (which you should have).

Hack, my pc is pretty ghetto (axp 1800+, crap mobo) and can handle pj64, and epsxe, without a problem.

not good enough for mame heavier games or new gen stuff, but can handle some nfs-mw (why would want that? no idea) action, but with low details..
