SubjectQuick Replacement (more inside ) new Reply to this message

I just totally fried the shit outta my mainboard and cpu. I used to be running a p4 3.06 processor on a intel 915 mobo but now they're dead like the cps2 board. I'm looking for something to quickly replace the system I already have, underneath $250 CDN. AMD looks nice this direction.

Anyone have any suggestions?

What kind of RAM do you have? (SDRAM:PC133, PC100? DDRAM: PC3200?)

What kind of interface for your graphics card? AGP? PCI Express?

Are definitely sure BOTH are dead? That seems rather unlikely. I've seen boards get fried and i've seen boards fry chips (if they are not properly seated), but the one of the two components generally still works.

If you're hell bent on new mobo+cpu check out the Intel Core2 Duo E4300. It's a decent overclocker, great price, and throw a mobo in that has the current features you're used to and you'll be set. I'm assuming with 915 you have a PCI-E gfx card, so hopefully that isn't fried two and it will transfer right over.

If you have an AGP card, you'll be a bit more limited and probably should start thinking about spending some more cash or just getting a shit PC together just to get done with your basic needs until you can afford a decent rig rather going patchwork about it.

I'm going to pick up a motherboard on friday, just to see if that solves the problem, if it's the chip I'll just have to make due with getting a new processor.
