was using some exploit that was supposed to turn the screen red (which it did), and then it is supposed to crash the machine after updating the firmware. i think i mistook just having a black screen as crashing, and after restarting (or trying to) nothing would come up. think i just didn't give it enough time to actually update. it's ok though, will be taking it back this morning to get another one. no big deal.
