Subjectquestions and 2cents about CPS3 Reply to this message

1) What about the protection CD, the minutes it takes to decrypt the data when the machine is booted, the fact that the emulator just needs ordinary ROMs?

2) What about the impressive hardware the CPS3 was supposed to be? It feels a lot like a polished NeoGeo, and it's what? 5 years older?

3) All this fuss about 6 games? No, wait. Three games are Street Fighter III something. 4 games? No, wait. Two games are JoJo something. 3 games? Way to invest on hardware design!

That being said, the games are not bad. But nothing THAT exciting.

I don't know about Elsemi's emulator, but RB is working on the CD emulation now. Once taht is fixed, the first time you boot the game (with throttle on) will take thirty minutes). See this post here:

Part of the reason it only had the few games it did.

Some people are still excited that Capcom was finally able to count to three ;-)

RELAX and just have fun.
Remember, it's all about the games.

I gave it a go last night. Warzard isn't that great. SF3 is still good stuff. I haven't played the DC version in a long time, but it does feel a little different from what I recall. Faster perhaps. It reminded me how lame many of those SF3 characters are. They should have just lifted the fighters from Alpha. I have no idea how people can parry during battle. I noticed there are still a buttload of bugs in the emulation, particularly the graphics. I really like the CPS3 animation though.

was that the characters were bizarre and stupid. It's lame how there are so many monsters and what not, that the game is almost falling into the sci-fi category of fighters. SSF2T had 17 characters, and the only two that i'd consider off the wall were blanka & dahlsim, and they weren't even that bad. SF3, you got some disapearing asshole who rips off omega red's moves from xmen, the one ugly one-armed dude, frankenstein bullshit and a few others.

at least with 3rd strike, i get to pick who i want to fight, so the odds of fighing one of these stupid characters is slimmer. They should've brought back more characthers, like guile, since he was axed for most of the alpha series.

They had plenty of characters that they could just drop in who were way better. It took them until 3rd Strike to bring back Chun-Li. Like you said, it was the perfect time to bring back Guile. Instead we get Alex, who no one cares about. On top of that they decided to make Alex the "main character". Metal Gear Solid 2. Raiden. Etc. They axed everyone except Ryu and Ken, and threw in a cast with exactly zero charisma. Well... Ibuki was good I suppose. And I kind of like Makoto. They also finally hit the point of pushing the shotokan shit too far with Sean. I excused them for Dan because he was basically a joke character, but Sean pushed it over the edge. It's just like Mortal Combat with all the SubZero/Scorpion clones.

And for anyone who has played though Warzard. Have you seen Tessa's second ending? What the fuck? At least I got to see a little skin I guess.

I agree 1000%, the first thing I noticed when SF3 came out was how much the characters sucked and how none of them came remotely close to any of the multitude of ones from Super Turbo that got the axe.

In many ways, SF3 reminded me of Alpha 1. A whole slew of new characters, new engine, new counter system, new combo system, all new art direction... At least Alpha tied most of the new characters into the established Capcom universe. They threw in Guy and Sodom and brought back Adon, 3 characters new to the SF universe, but that people knew. It sure was a big change, and I remember most people still playing Super Turbo over Alpha in the arcade, but they stuck with the formula.

By the time all was said and done with Alpha 3 Upper, that is what I think should have been SF3 right off the bat. You had every character from Super Turbo, new characters from the Final Fight universe, returning characters from SF1, and some brand new characters tossed in to even out the mix. If they had just skipped over Alpha 1 and 2 and went straight to 3, I think most players would have been satisfied with that as the sequel to SF2.

The characters and locations in SF2 are iconic. The ones from SF3 are just shit, no matter how pretty the animation looks.

I loved the character design of SF3 and I especially loved how they pretty much threw out everyone except Ryu and Ken. I wish they had clipped out Akuma as well, but ...eh. whatever.

Dudley was an awesome boxer character, something that caught me off guard when I initially thought that he'd just be another Balrog (who I'm not much of a fan of). Yun and Yang are enjoyable kung fu characters, Ibuki is far and away my favorite female SF character, I can't believe anyone would shit on Elena, Hugo is Hugo (which is very good), and while I feel a little gay picking him, Urien is quite the pimp. Sean was the Dan and Q was my favorite new fighter in third strike.

Shit, the only characters I just did not like were Chun Li (bleh), Twelve (double bleh), Remy (eurotrash shit), and Necro (go join the cast of Vampire Savior, fucker).
