SubjectX-Files DVDs new Reply to this message

I picked up the complete X-Files series on DVD from Best Buy during their $20/season special on Fox shows, and while I'm totally digging watching this stuff that I hadn't seen since the early 90s. I have fond memories of seeing the first season or so back when it originally aired, but I just haven't seen it since then (mainly because there's no way in hell that I was going to spend $100/season for the show...$180/series though? fuck yea).

We're only two episodes in so far, but something to be aware of is that the video transfer and encoding quality is seriously weak stuff. I'll have to break out the discs and snap some shots later, but I'm pretty unimpressed by the black levels and the macro blocking. The audio mix is also notably lackluster, especially compared to the audio mix in the Seinfeld DVDs.

Oh well, something to cycle in between seasons of Next Generation :D

When you get to the Season 4 episode "Home". That shit fucked me up big time. I havn't seen it since the first time it aired, but I wont watch it again. Maybe if I went back and watched it, now that I'm older and have seen things like goatse and tubgirl, it wouldn't have the same effect, but I'm not taking any chances.

I recently got the whole series as well, seeing that each season was not insanely priced at $100 any longer.

I didn't really mind the quality, but it's because I got the DVDs as a replacement of the VHS tapes of all the shows I taped from TV way back then. I had stopped at season 6 (7 took a while to arrive where I was), so it was interesting to see what happened after.

I was surprised by 7, 8 was not bad but 9 was weak. You can tell they were massacring the plot and the interest for the series at the end. Too many WTF? moments. That's too bad, but well I guess they couldn't keep it forever either.

After getting an HDTV I've started to realise how crap most DVD's are. I've been look looking at the $300 box set of next Generation but don't want to end up quality like a 350meg xvid

The Next Generation discs are actually fairly good (especially considering the age of the show and when the discs were made) and they're just yet another reason why I'm so completely underwhelmed and disappointed with the X-Files discs.

late nite on showtime.

i was an x files freak as well because we all were and later we had the pc game on a crazy bunch of cds because that's what we did in those days and there were many funny moments because the full motion video sequences were quite wack and i would call dean in, monster giggles all around. the game never was much fun, but the chance to annoy videogame characters and make them become frustrated with you was something that i couldn't pass up. bet this was hard to read sorry

I saw it being demo'd at E3, but I never got to play the full version :( Kinda always assumed that it'd suck, but my assumptions have failed me before (Blade Runner wound up being a completely fucking pimp game).

Stumbled on the PS2 X-Files game today, but the place wanted $15 for it. Call me old fashioned, but I couldn't see myself spending more than $10 on it :(

Blade Runner is a 7 layer cake of raw awesome and pure sex spread across four discs.
