SubjectWhat the fuck have you been playing? Reply to this message

So the year is more than half over...what the hell have you guys been playing? Anyone tracking their completion numbers for this year? Anyone working through any game series of note?

I'm working on tackling the Splinter Cell quadrilogy on Xbox right now and just completed Legacy of Darkness on N64. Still have to play through Reinhart's quest (which I'll mark down as "Castlevania 64" on my list), but I had a pretty good time with Cornell's...kind of wish I knew how to make him transform while I was playing through it...it probably would have been much easier (that Dracula battle was tricky!). I want to do Curse of Darkness, but I'd prefer to do Castlevania III again beforehand. Perhaps after that I'll knock out the GBA Castlevanias, Dawn of Sorrow, Bloodlines, and then Portrait of Ruin.... but that's mostly long term stuff that reaches well into (and possibly through) next year.

Right now, the focus is on Splinter Cell and then Metal Gear. Not sure if I'm going to do the first two games or not... I may just plow through the MGS series, though it would be nice to replay through Solid Snake for the first time in a decade. Ghost Babel is a big maybe, too...we'll see about that one.

and yea, I set up a wiki to track the games as I tackle 'em. If anyone else wants in on it, let me know and I'll set you up an account and get your page started for you. If you want a quick game to notch up on the ol' list, fire up Ys III and hold down the unthrottle and attack buttons while in the cave. You'll max you levels in a few minutes and spend the next hour plowing through the game.

Armadillo Run

It's a "physics" game that is frustratingly fun and there are TONS of ways to complete each level, but you're limited by a budget. You can use stuff like cloth, rubber, rope, elastic, and metal to build stuff. Pretty nice/fresh compared to a lot of the rehash out there.

Finished Zelda in early Feb, I think. Then played WarioWare Smooth Moves and Wii Sports for a bit, before getting into Excite Truck. Took a Wii break to play Desktop Tower Defence, and now back on Resident Evil 4 Wii. Next up are Godfather (Black Hand) and SSX (got them nice and cheap from someone who knows someone who works for EA).
I tried to play the witch-touching game on the DS, but it seems like knowing-how-to-speak Japanese is a must...

So i've been playing some older stuff that i passed up back when it was new.

So far, i've gone through
-Call of Duty (gonna tackle the expansion when i get the time)
-Medal of Honor Allied Assault (couldn't get the expansions to work, but screw it, it's not so good anyway)

I'm currently tackling Painkiller, another one of those i can't believe i passed up.
Also gave the new Civilization 4 expansion a run, it's pretty fun, and ads some good dinamic with the new spy usage.
I've also had NeverWinter Nights platinum installed for a while, but haven't really gotten around to play it yet.

I got a part time job teaching english now and i'm also pretty driven to pass the tests i have coming up to get a job in public health, so i've been playing a lot less than before. That coupled with my hardware limitations has me a little distanced from gaming right now.

I'm still hoping i can save up enough to get an upgrade before the end of the year to enjoy the massive slew of awesome goodies coming up. (Crysis, Call of Duty 4, MoH Airborne, GTA4, Company of Heroes 2, Starcraft 2, Bioshock, Timeshift, UT3, Gears of War, Far Cry 2, World in Conflict, HL2 Ep2, Sega Rally Evo, etc.)

Not to mention the good stuff already out that i can't touch like DiRT and Stalker.

Well, things have been moving quite nicely for me, so i hope i'm well settled soon and can start to relax a bit more.

All work and no play makes me..., well, you know the rest.

Great bit of fun to play the true classics again. I think I'll tackle Ultima V next or maybe Ultima III.

I blasted through Zero Mission a few days ago and now I'm playing the original Metroid which is bundled on that cart as well. I know people go ga-ga for Castlevania but I have way more fun playing Metroid. After this I plan on playing the Metroid I missed on the GB.

For some reason, I'm fascinated by Aerobiz (and by extension, Aerobiz Supersonic). Probably for the same reasons I enjoyed M.U.L.E.

One of these days I'm going to run a full length full season in GPL, probably starting with the 1965 mod and working my way through the rest. Probably once I get my wheel set back up.

I also need to finish up Phantasy Star. I finished Dezoris a while back (fucking finally) so I'm pretty close to finishing the game now, I just need to find the motivation to do it, then go on to PS2 and PS4.

If I could get the setup cheap, I'd be all over Guitar Heroes. (My definition of cheap differs from yours by an order of magnitude. GH is fun, but not $250 worth of fun.)

(BTW, re: the post title: comment of the night at last night's poker game: first game, I lost a hand on a pretty bad beat (I might've gotten knocked out, I don't really remember). My friend's little brother then said, "What happened, did you get the luck beaten out of you?" He didn't mean it that way, and I suspect he would've said the same thing if I didn't have a head full of stainless fasteners. Regardless, I was the only one who didn't care, and I kinda shrugged it off with, "Yes, but that was back in junior high.")

You can't see anything. All the rooms look alike. Annoying sounds and music. You just go room to room looking for metroids to kill, and wishing that it was christmas or you birthday so that you could get a new game to play. I played it when I was like 12 and hated it, which is a lot different than me hating it now, because I hate everything now.

Metroid is also a hella shorter series than Castlevania. The first game is still pretty playable, but the second...ehh... at least Super Metroid will always be a classic. On the other hand, Fusion will always be a complete piece of shit :( I should give Super Metroid a run through sometime this year, too... haven't played through it in years.

I wish they had made more 2d Metroid games. I may not be much of a fan of the Prime and Hunters games, but at least they were able to kick out 3d versions without pissing off too much of their fanbase. It's crazy how wildly different people feel about the 3d Castlevanias vs the 3d Metroids.

I LOVED this game. My friend and I would play in the US and undercut each other on airfares until the other went bankrupt.

We found it's skewed toward the Asian markets since it's a Japanese game, so if you set up in Asia you seem to make the most jack out of any of the regions. But still it's a perfect sim.

Such a good game. I think this is the KOEI game most in need of a remake.

Been organizing and categorizing with that game collector software. I am up to 477 with just a half booklet and one more spindle to go. I'll put up some pics soon, it is kind of neat.

List so far this year goes something like:

Simple Series Swim Meet: Crazy game where you stare at girls in bikinis as they do splits, kiss, stroke a thermometer until it shoots of a rocket(!)

NCAA 08: is a pretty much just a roster update, but enjoyable nonetheless. Going through Season with OU.

Rugby 08: is finally fun for anyone to try with most of the kinks worked out. A Blast multiplayer.

Arena Football 2008: Finished a 16 game season over the past 3 months with OKC Yarddawgz with my girlfriend and won the Arena 2 Bowl, Woo! Great game for people who find Madden/NCAA to daunting

Gran Turismo 4: Used Action replay to get every including steam engine cars. Kinda of cool to see three wheeled cars that top out at like 5 MPH in the game :)

Fire Pro R: Just lots of Royal Rumbles with some random cool CAWS (over 800 slots). If you like wrestling, get this game. It is being brought over in the Fall/Spring by Agetec

Sims 2: Built a pimp house with my girlfriend. I am a Politician, she is a Government Assasin :)

Gundam Games: Got like 5 of them and just punching stuff with giant robots.

My Street: Cool mini-game that is basically Chu Chu Rocket on PS2 with Chickens and Pigs.

Going thru Kill.Switch after getting stuck a year ago
UFC Sudden Impact: Good MMA game
K-1 GP2006: Same as above
Ghost Rider
Beat Indiana Jones and Emperor's Tomb: So hard, with a let down ending.
Lumines Plus: Hard!
World Cup Germany 2006

With my job, I will be out of gaming for the next 6 weeks, but I have started on the following:

Ever Blue 2 (Old PS2 couldn't read this anymore)
Legend of Spyro (Latest release)
Beyond Good and Evil (Heard so much about it)
Chulip (My girl likes this one)
God Hand (Need to finish this)

I love games

The later more advanced levels look amazing. I find it satisfying to make things more efficient, so I enjoy going back and working on completed stages. Unfortunately, I'm too cheap to buy the full version. That's part of being efficient as well.

but i have been playing some games.
i usually play 8 and 16-bit stuff.

recently completed games features :
Castlevania II
Super Monaco GP I (first season only, no point doing anymore)
Moonwalker - Genesis (i had a pretty hard time remembering shit out, but itīs a fun game, especially for the all the MJ > kids jokes you can make on the way).

Also been playing a lot of Toca3 on Pc. Itīs a fun racing game. And some Gp4 too. I was planning on doing some full lenghs races on it, but i donīt have the patience for it.

Also, i never stop playing Rock nī Roll Racing, for a quick game (no loadings, no annoying dialogs, nothing, just fire it up and play) and the same goes for After Burner II.

About new stuff, i havenīt really been following, i played RE:4 (or something like that) at a friendīs house, and didnīt cared for it.

About Metroid, i was thinking about going through it again. And maybe Super Metroid, but iīm still unsure.

especially since iīve only been playing a little per day, 20 minutes, tops, if that much.

cool wiki page, roushi.

I had a good time playing Fusion. I thought it was a good successor to the Metroid franchise. I'm kind of upset that Fusion and Zero Mission are so ridiculously easy though. I know portable games aren't meant to be the most challenging things on the whole planet but I'd rather not just casually walk through a game in a few hours.

The intro is great, it really drew me into the game and got me excited about playing. Then I actually started playing and had to wrestle with the conversation system. No thanks. What's wrong with conversation options?

I also tried VII around the same time. Same situation. I really dug it in the beginning, but this time, it was the combat that completely turned me off. Really clunky and lame. Too bad, because it seems like a really neat game otherwise. I think if it was ported to the Ultima Online engine it could be a lot better, as the graphics and UI are in a very similar style, so you get the feel of the original, but with improved combat.
