SubjectWhat I REALLY want to do Reply to this message

I want to build my own PSX emulator that I can apply graphic filters and resolution to WHILE ALSO providing 100% compatability. I program day and night as my job and hobby but I never broke into emulation. In a perfect world I could pick it up in a few months (being no stranger to CPU architecture) and perhaps modify/update an existing emulator so that it can do what I want. Either that or reinvent the wheel which I'd rather not do.

If the author of pSX emulator would make that shit open source I would tear it up. Where else could I find a good open source PSX emulator. MAME?

What I really want to do is kick the balls of everyone that likes filters 'cause I'm a hater.

If you could make a filter that just upscales the 2D PSX bits so they don't look like complete shit when they're forced to run in high resolutions then that would rock.

Writing an emulator from scratch is kinda complicated, writing one starting as a fork of an existing emulator is even more complicated IMO since you're expected to understand every little emulated detail without going through the 'learning' project of writing the emu yourself.

Anyway, start with something easy, like Gameboy (a simple Gameboy emu shouldn't take long to write). Once SnowBoy 1.0 is ready, and you say "phew, that was easy", go for the PSX.

even smf has admitted he's gotten on a DDR adding kick rather than actually fixing bugs with the emulation. It'll eventually get fixed though, but it's probably going to be a little while yet.

PSX is a MESS thing.

Yes, I know there are PSX based arcade games, and emulation on both sides will benefit, but PSX won't show up in MAME, for the same reason that sfzch was moved from MAME to MESS.
