The government limited the amount they would pay out to dentists who performed work on the NHS (i.e. not privately), so a lot of dentists have reduced the amount of NHS work they do - in some cases to zero. My dentist disappeared completely, and it's not been fun trying to find a new one.
Other aspects of the NHS are better, but a lot of it depends on where you are. When I lived in Oxford (UK), I had excellent dermatology and psychological treatment, but in South London, it's shit.
