SubjectXbox 360 Media Center and WMV-HD, OH YEAH. new Reply to this message

A while back when browsing a.b.g.xbox360 (or something like that) I noticed people keep uploading god damned movies in there, the place for games. It finally hit me last week that they were HD-DVD or Blu-ray rips encoded in WMV-HD since that's what the 360's Media Center program is compatible with. You just play that shit off your Xbox!@#

Well damn, I wanted Transformers but I wasn't going to watch a lowly DVD version and sure enough an HD-DVD rip showed up on the 360 usenet group. The quality of these rips is definitely nicer than DVD but I'm not sure how it compares to the original since I've never seen 'em. Wal-Mart is going to sell a $98 HD-DVD player this week but I'll probably just hold off and eventually get the 360 add-on.

I also got Disturbia in WMV-HD from HD-DVD and it was pretty good. I think I'll keep an out on the 360 group; probably look around for more WMV-HD stuff.

If HD-DVDs weren't like $25 I'd probably be willing to pay for some. $25 around here is just about a few dollars short of a night at the movies for two people plus snacks. O_o;

Jesus Christ, for $25, you can do the movie multiple times, popcorn costs, what, six bucks a dozen, and you fucking finish right there on the couch, no ushers, no waiting, every time.

/ Nightcap is right upstairs, down the hall, no waiting
// Oh, yeah, and you don't have to smuggle "social lubricant" into your home

But most of them are 8gb and won't fit on a dvd-r. I get me x264 rips now. The quality is about the same for half the filesize. Well ok I'm getting the matrix trilogy, all in 8gb but it's worth it.

I used to get those wmv files when I had my ghetto comp, then I watched the x264 rips with my girlfriend's laptop plugged on my monitor, now my new pc plays them just fine, the hell with wmv-hd. It's not like I got an hd tv anyway.

You might be better off getting the HD-DVD player for $100. The X-Box HD-DVD player converts all the audio to Dolby or DTS 5.1.
