Her cable broadband is through Time Warner. She has extended cable TV in addition to her internet access, and she literally doesn't watch TV at all because she thinks it's all mindless drivel (I agree). For example, she has a faint recollection of a TV family named the Bundys but doesn't know anything about them.

Anyways, I asked her if it was ok to hook a Slingbox up and she said sure.

The cable that you get your cable TV through plugs into the Slingbox. You then plug a CAT5 cable from the Slingbox into your router. Plug all power cords in. Install software on a machine on the network (in my case, my laptop) and configure.

Install software automatically does everything, from downloading and installing the newest firmware to configuring the TV channels to configuring your router to work with it. Once configuration is done, I can watch cable TV on my laptop anywhere there is broadband access.

The cable I'm watching is her cable. Now, she can't watch channel A and me watch channel B at the same time; we both have to watch the same channel. Since she never watches TV, I basically have it all to myself!

It really is simple to install and set up. The more bandwidth you have (both ends) the better the video. As it is set up by default, the video looks fine. Great little piece of hardware.
