No integrated hardware mpeg-2 encoder. QAM is not supported through the XP MCE app (it *should* work through Vista's media center app and Arcsoft's TotalMedia on XP or Vista, but I don't have cable to test it. Even so, a lot of cable co's don't broadcast unencrypted QAM hd, making the feature a little less useful.)
I just moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where it is relatively flat so OTA transmission is less hindered than in more hilly places.
I live in the bottom floor of a 2 story apartment complex about 10-15miles from TV towers (check it out on AntennaWeb, just plug in your zipcode and go. As a note, if you have Firefox's AdBlock installed, you have to turn it off to use the mapping feature to select your location in compared to the TV broadcast towers).
AntennaWeb should tell you the type of antenna you need plus the approx direction the tv tower is from you (good due to the highly directional nature of most antenna's).
Also the drivers on the CD are from 2002. The one's on KWorld's Website are 2007 so use only the web drivers.
Overall though, I'm pretty happy. Going to be going to RadioShack tomorrow to pick up a nice antenna that has a base so I don't need to keep trying to prop this bow-tie antenna up.
