Subjectanyone know a good short-term memory exercise ? Reply to this message
Posted byTi-BOne
Posted on04/10/08 08:14 AM

i have trouble remembering things i set myself to do.
like, if i am going home, i think "the first i will do when i get home, is this." by the time i get home (like 20, 30 minutes later), i completely forgot about it.

Also, iīve been meaning to make this thread for a while, but i keep forgetting. heh.

I keep a list of shit I gotta do beside my monitor at all times. It helps.

All work and no play makes me..., well, you know the rest.

My problem is I'm always thinking and can't stop, especially about stuff I'm supposed to do/supposed to remember etc, it's like I'm paranoid to forget it or for the repercussions if I don't end up doing that shit. Yeah I know the world won't fall apart, but my brain is just stupid and keeps bothering me to the point of insomnia sometimes. I don't even try to think of these things but it's like some ticker reel constantly running in my head superimposed on everything no matter what I do. If we could trade brains for a while it would be like a vacation.

I had to stop programming because I'd wake up in the middle of the night with some amazing optimization or bugfix because I'd figure out what the problem was in my code in my sleep. Seriously what the fuck!?!?

Now I'm making some music and it's like the same thing, my brain is going nuts thinking up of melodies or intricacies to add to songs I'm working on.

Most of these have a "todo" list feature. Just add something to the todo list when you're worried of forgetting. Then you check it every morning or everytime you get home, and try to get as many items done as possible.

The good ones allow you to set a priority so you can divide the truly urgent stuff from the things you might feel like doing once in a blue moon.

i usually have this "moments" when showering.
Sometimes, i forget shit before i left shower, i feel so stupid sometimes.

But yeah, especially with music, i have these "moments" or "clicks" or whatever.

But yeah, switching brains would be good.

Freak Friday today ?

I don't know what you can find over there... but some years ago, in the US, you could get some old Black & White Palm for quite cheap. Sure, it didn't do much, but the retro factor gave it some bonus points...

Well these ideas might sound stupid, but I think they could work

When you have to remember something, then try and think of something it reminds you of right away, if you link the memory to something familiar then it is more likely to stay in your head longer.

Or if there's a song you were thinking of recently, just replace the song lyrics with what you're trying to remember.

If you have to remember a number, then try reading the numbers like letters and pronouncing the number as best you can as a word. Like 4151 could be "fisi" or something.

hehe

At least if I go insane then the asylum might be nice, everyone takes care of you and you can do whatever you want, nothing to think about except whatever you want!

j/k
