The VC really gives the bare minimum. Once you have been using an emu box (GP2X in my case), you get used to all kind of options. Given the choice (and assuming accurate emulation) I will always prefer to play on an emu because of the extra features. E.g. I got rid of a lot of tediousness in Phantasy Star II by speeding up the game to 150% and using a few save states to avoid having to repeat the whole dungeon from a cheap random encounter that went wrong.
