I found it to be a fantastic game. It is a bit more linear than Mario64, but that's because you have clearer objectives. I found the initial run to the endgame to be much less tedious than previous Mario games (e.g. no "collect 8 red coins" levels to get to the end).

It does feel a bit on the easy side though... but there's more stuff to do after you've finished the game (some levels unlock so you can get all the stars). I don't know what the last surprise (didn't get them all yet) but they hint it's something better than Yoshi showing up (as in 64).

So is it a revolutionary game like SMB1? No, but it's better than Sunshine and 64, in my opinion. Only downside is that it's short, but except Zelda, it's usually like that with big N.
