Also take into account the default Vista install is ~15gb. Here in the states, 640gb is $100 and 1tb is $200, so comparatively, it's a fairly small drive.

I've been running a 320gb drive for a year or two now. It's definitely on the bottom range as far as disk space in new pc's goes.

The new PC should have at least some IDE interface for that 100gb drive. Worst comes to worst, either buy a SATA to IDE adapter or better yet get an external drive box and throw the old hdd in it.
