You'd need something like this. Unlike a normal IDE cable that supports two drives, this thing only supports one drive because SATA is only one device per cable (and you have to make the drive a Master via the jumpers).
I'm guessing the optical drive in the pc would be IDE which means if the PC only has one IDE port (common these days, most do not have two any more), so you'd probably just have to set the old hdd to Slave and plug it right in.
If it's SATA only (and you may only have 2 SATA ports if they were *really* cheap), you'd have to disconnect your optical drive, hook up the old IDE hdd with a SATA/IDE adapter, and then boot up the PC and simply copy/paste everything from the old drive to the new.
More than likely though, you'll have more than 2 SATA ports (and if not, there will be IDE onboard). I have that exact adapter and it works fine. Or you simply could buy an external USB SATA/IDE box. Sorry that I don't have links to UK stores, but that stuff will give you an idea of what to look for.
