PS3:

Motorstorm - $9 - Great game. It's like Excite Truck in HD but without the crazy jumps and terrain deformation and focus on points. I like this a lot. Excite Truck still better but I can't complain for $9. Anyone who likes arcade rally-style racing will enjoy this. Great tracks with a lot of alternate routes and jumps and shit. The AI gets a little annoying though. I'm impressed at the quality considering this is a launch title. The graphics measure up to today's games easily. My only complaint is the soundtrack was made up by some retarded Ridge Racer fan.

Stuntman Ignition - $9 - Not bad, I don't know if I could play through the entire game but it's an interesting take on a car-based action game. You basically have to memorize a sequence (or be able to anticipate the various cues) and play it out the best you can. I guess it's mostly fun to the type of people that really enjoy vehicle physics and want to do some cool stuff and shave seconds off their time, but I'd probably just rather fuck around in GTA4. Nice graphics, physics, and controls though. Well done game.

Wii:

Boom Blox - $40 (new) - I read the reviews and it seemed ok, but another puzzle/party game on the Wii? It seems like everyone is passing over this one, but really, run the fuck out and get this game right now if you have a Wii. Just the puzzle creator in this game alone is worth it, it's like playing around with Gary's mod except I imagine a lot easier (I never used Gary's mod), but you get to do it with the Wiimote. The game is broken down into two sections, one where you just have puzzles that involve the different blocks in the game and you have to finish the level with the least moves for the highest scores, and another "adventure" mode where you solve puzzles that also involve the different animal-based blocks in the game which are like pre-programmed lemmings that keep doing the same shit over and over and you have to figure out how to set off the right chain reactions. There is a lot of depth to this game but it's totally intuitive, and never seems too complex to be enjoyable. Best part is you can play this game with one hand so you can puff while you play.

Geometry Wars Galaxies: $15 - Good ass game if you want a classic shooter to fuck around in. At first when I was using the Wii controls it seemed a little gimmicky and I wanted to use the classic controller for some dual analog, but you quickly get used to it and before you know it you can easily watch your character and then aim using your peripheral vision (since there's a nice red line going out to your target) or vice versa, plus it's easier to figure out the right angle you want to aim in, especially since Nintendo's controllers have those notches on the edge of the analog stick well. The levels are based on classic gameplay from other shooters and classic video games, and the music sounds retro in a good way. Nice game.

Also there's a level you have to connect to the DS version in order to be able to even unlock. That's right, if you don't buy this game twice, you can't access content you already paid for. I hate shit like this and it's happened before with the GBA. Even worse, the Wii version includes a downloadable DS version of Geometry Wars, but won't let you use that to unlock the extra Wii content. Nice way to fuck over your customers.

NiGHTS - $20 - It's definitely NiGHTS... which is OK but the gameplay seems slightly antiquated nowadays. It was great when analog stick controllers first came out, but now that the novelty worn out, it isn't the most amazing thing in the world. It's more like a glorified race against the clock. I just tried it for the first level. Graphics and music are nice, and the game is far less buggy than most recent SEGA games, so that's a plus. This game is fan service I guess. I haven't tried the Wiimote controller, but it is probably better than using the analog stick, because of the notches. You can't aim in certain directions easily, and it seems like SEGA made this game for their old Saturn controller instead of anything you can put in the Wii.

Harvey Birdman - $10 - Definitely worth $10 (but probably not more), it's like playing the TV show. It's a good way to pass the time and reminds me of old point-and-click adventure games, although definitely not as complex. I haven't tried Ace Phoenix or anything but I'm guessing this is pretty much the same. It's good if you like the humor of the show. A nice diversion for when you don't want to get into a highly visceral action game. It would have been more worth it to buy if the game also received episodic updates but they don't have that.

360:

Blue Dragon - $20 - The story so far is pretty corny. If I compare it to Dragon Quest VIII, I really like that this is another big budget old school RPG, but Blue Dragon seems a bit uninspired and tedious. It's really weird that in the story segments there are cinematics for 3 minutes then they let you take control of your character to walk for literally 2 seconds and then you're back in another cinematic. Even though it's an exclusive game, the graphics are mediocre for what the 360 is supposed to be able to do. There is even screen tearing when there's not that much going on, and fucking pop-in (mostly of shadows and other details, but inexcusable) when there's barely anything on the screen. The way the characters are modeled is poorly done, they look flat with painted on textures which would have been fine if the game was cel-shaded but it's not. It looks like a crappy N64 instruction book. Also I don't know why this game takes 3 discs, the cinematics barely look better than anything in-engine, and I guess were only stored as video to reduce load times. That's a big letdown after they made a big deal about the game being 3 discs. I guess I'll play it until something better comes along. I have no idea why Blue Dragon has an anime and manga, and other fan-based shit surrounding the game. Does anyone even care?
