We pulled through and looked around and decided the place was on it's last legs and not worth our time. The rides are all shutdown and the stores were too mostly at lunch time on a Thursday I think it was.
Williamsburg was also a bit of a disappointment since this area is hurting badly with tourism down and so the town isn't running with many actors or anything. I would say with gas the way it is most of the toruist areas are very empty that we have visited so far. It great for amusement park lines for us, but if it continues I think some neat places will be in very real trouble of changing or closing down.
Anyways, Williamsburg cost us $88 admission(!) just to see a colonial town that was mostly closed up and tour a couple of replica houses. It was intersting, but pricey and just oppresively hot. It was 97 with humidity, no idea the heat index. Oklahoma gets rough at times too, but this heat was just brutal, way more humid.
In the afternoon we hit Norfolk and saw the naval yards which had a Aircraft carrier and a Carnival cruise ship in them today, then stopped and swam at Virginia Beach. It had the best waves, largest beachfront, and nicest shower setup, but parking was hard to find and the streets have few lights and less rules so it was like driving in Mexico at times. Still, nice beach to have fun in.
The waves were great, better than Corpus, Galveston, and Key West surpisingly, but Pensacola and Mrtyle Beach were pretty similar to this one. The water has still been the prettiest in Florida, with Destin and Key West in a close tie.
Florida drivers though, hands down the worst. Maybe they are torusits though in rental cars. And tons of Brits there, the Pound to dollar ratio makes it a cheap trip for them.
