I bought it about an hour ago, but I don't think I have time for it tonight. All I know is that it supposedly makes SOTN its bitch, and does it in class by going somewhat looking back to go forward. I heard it has a Castlevania II like layout with town, mansions, and then the badass hard value of early stage based Castlevania titles which is fantastic.

Vamp I think you will really appreciate what they have done with this one, everything they've learnt in the past has been put to much better use this time around, the artwork is just breathtaking and the fluidity of it all, i'm really liking this new glyph system/combo system and best of all ITS HARD! somewhat! I can only cream at the thought of whats to come the boss battles are just crazy! so far! and i haven't even scratched the surface.

This isn't really too much of a spoiler but, try and go for the Boss Medals, i've just re-started my game again, to try and earn these, which you have to do by fighting the boss without getting hit once, i have no idea what their for so far but we'll know come 15 hours or so...hmmm

Well Guild Wars was full of fucking morons tonight where they want to be punching bags in alliance(pvp team) battles so I whipped out Castlevania. I did the opener and the Monestary so far and I can see what you mean. That game really does feel more like if SOTN and Simon's Quest had some bastard child. The difficulty I wonder how hard it will get, but I'd assume somewhere between SOTN and CV2 too from the handling. Lots of new visuals, I read 1/2 the creatures are new too so that's cool..and zero of the horrid gameplay of the atrocity PoR from last year I sold off because it sucked so hard.

If this tracks well and the game doesn't fall apart later into it I could see how this is handled in making an entire Castlevania spinoff series with this Eccelsia group.

So far I'd have to say yes. While still in that SOTN type style, they did a hybrid with Castlevania II like broke up stage format in the game. Beyond that the entire combat system is new yet still feels familiar. The various blends and freshness of it make it SOTNs equal if not superior (I'm far from done so I can't go there in all fairness so it could end up sucking later or kicking SOTNs ass.)

Chasing the dragon. It will never be as good as the first time. I've played at least 4 Castlevania games that were billed as the SOTN killer but they could never exceed the original. I stopped playing them a year or two ago because I've just grown so tired of hacking through another sequel hoping it will do something significantly different. A new weapon system, team attacks, magic binding, etc. just don't add anything to the formula. I'm still just going to hack and slash my way through using the strongest and best attacks. All the extra crap usually sucks. A fruit stand in a desert of boredom.

I'm not tired of it at all! I could play another Castlevania game each year until I die. However there are definitely certain ones that stand out:

Castlevania, Castlevania II, Castlevania III, Dracula X, Bloodlines, SoTN, Aria of Sorrow, and Dawn of Sorrow. IV and Dracula XX are good also. I can't really whittle it down more than that, these games are just really good. There's something addictive about them. And I get 100%+ in each one. I know someone who finishes each GTA and Gran Turismo 100% too. Each person has their vice :)

I could also play another Dragon Quest every year, Virtua Fighter, Contra, Wipeout, Mario, Katamari Damacy, and Metal Gear as well. Games that I really like, they could loosely remake them and update them with current technology and I would be happy playing the same shit over and over, slightly different (Katamari, Contra, Castlevania), or radically updated (like MGS4, DQ8)

I can't say I'll bother at all with those medals as I want to enjoy the game, not rage into an aneurysm and a shattered DS.

Honestly I'm kind of at a loss. I'm only like lv6 maybe 7 and that skeleton killed me the one time I tried it in like 8 hits. I'm thinking I'm horridly under leveled or something.

I was about level 7 when i fought him and here's some tips to kick his ass and get that medal too.

i've actually managed to get every medal so far and with some careful equipment choice, patience you can do it to.

In regards to the Skeleton 'boss' do this

Get an axe glyph if you don't have it already and equip that to both slots. Make sure you have the magnet glyph as well on the R button.

Start the fight and jump up and attach yourself to the first magnet. Attack him with the axes while you're still magnetized and when he gets close throw yourself onto the other magnet/side of him and keep doing this. He shouldn't even hit you once.

Shouldn't take you too long and just have some patience.

When you do that then get prepared for....

closely followed by IV, the 8 way whip is still one of the best thing that happened in the series, I love it

As for ecclesia, I finally got something else than a bad ending and I just entered Dracula's castle, level 26.

Thought I'd finish it quickly but I don't think I'll play a lot in the coming days, I'm going to Mexico, one week vacation on the beach with my girlfriend in a 5 star hotel, this is gonna be awesome.

i've got eclessia on my ds, and i've got through the first two bosses, haven't sussed it completely and feel a bit... meh about it. i will give it the benefit of the doubt over the weekend and muster on, i hope its worth it.

It's not only one of the best Castlevanias, but one of my favorite games ever. They NEED to remake it. It's a masterpiece. It has an incredible soundtrack, amazing graphics and special effects, great levels that are each different and awesome in their own way, extra characters, the bosses are well designed, secrets everywhere, it's a long game with different paths, it gets hard as fuck later on but it's definitely beatable, different endings...

I was disappointed the game wasn't more like Simon's Quest, but almost everything about Castlevania III is perfect and even though the SNES was coming out soon, this game made you not give a fuck.

Next is SoTN, Bloodlines, Dawn of Sorrow, Aria of Sorrow, Simon's Quest, Dracula X, Castlevania Chronicles, Dracula XX. I actually don't like IV as much as everyone else seems to. It was just not very exciting, and kind of annoying. I like the soundtrack though.

It has amazing art, sound, and gameplay. It's a great game. The PCE version is way superior to the PSP version, but the PSP one is worth playing if you become a fan of Dracula X. Great game. If you had it when it originally came out you probably felt the same about it as most people do about SoTN if they played it when it originally came out and the "metroidvania" concept was born.

I dropped him like 12 hours ago w/out the axe glyph being used much. I have one, mostly speared the crap out of it. I got hit like once or twice, and since I was hit enough on the first one I'm not bothering.

Right now I'm trying to figure out the puzzle that is the giant enemy crab. I did the first part, went up and he did some new swiping motions and crushed me...maybe tomorrow.

I have the PSP one. To be honest I don't think the PCE game has aged all that well as I don't enjoy it much anymore. I really just bought it knowing I could get the classic version of SOTN and the PCE game (don't care about the 3d remake) so I just instantly downloaded a tweaked save so they were unlocked with NO progress on all 3 games.

I like it a lot so far. I'm stuck trying to get a perfect on the skeleton boss, guess I have to do some grinding to get my attack and heart max up. The level design, art style, music, and graphics are all great. Not so sure about the story but who cares. I like the addition of a map instead of different portraits or whatever. I've been putting in some hard time with this and i'm around 92percent done in my first playthrough so far without giving any spoilers it jumps off later on....;o)

some tips for the skeleton boss is just use the axe's glyph on him and keep jumping from side to side if you want to perfect him and get that medal. real easy stuff

I've gotten every medal so far and i'm glad I have cause it upped my game on this having to learn their strategies and play hard. Some of the bosses you will encounter are LEGENDARY!

I actually perfected the boss using Secare (tried the axe first but it wasn't happening for me, before I was using the knife since I could stay far away but that was taking ages), and at the next part I dodged all the search lights. Then I just decided to hit one to see what would happen, and this flying head comes at me. I start attacking it because I want to see how much exp I get and if it has any glyphs or drops, but instead I die. Heh... this game doesn't fuck around. But man I'm addicted to this game, I've got to complete it 100%! Can't wait to see the stuff you're talking about!

Dracula X on the SNES albeit a bit rare is fantastic and worth it. Honestly I like it a bit more than the PCE game at times as it's more straight forward and slightly less sadist.

If you took one get Dawn of Sorrow. The game isn't very hard at all, really well designed areas, good enough story, very solid gameplay that was the best up until this new release.
