I unerstand the NES version came out first, but it almost looks like they were going to make it for the arcade and then watered it down for the NES before releasing the arcade version. The reason I feel that's what they did is that when you play the NES version, particularly in the castle scenes, some areas look like they were watered down, an empty block where a fire pole should be, areas that are more complete than the VS level, filled in areas where there were gaps. Was Nintendo looking to make Super Mario Bros for the arcade first and then rushed a port to the NES, watering it down so that gamers could play the game? or was the game made harder after the NES version came out?
