SubjectAnyone had to deal with a Circuit City extended warranty recently? Reply to this message

My folks picked up a home theatre package (TV, Blu-Ray player, and Onkyo receiver/amplifier) from Circuit City back in '07. The receiver's now tits-up on all HDMI ports and well outside of the manufacturer's warranty period.

The thing is, they bought a 5-year extended warranty with the system when they got it. This was supposed to cover everything, but Circuit City are now telling me that only the TV is covered.

My guess is that whatever salesperson they dealt with screwed up the warranty and they really are SOL on coverage for the receiver, but the weird thing is that I've got three separate extended warranty booklets (which match the number of items purchased), but none of them say which components they actually cover. Looking at what they paid for the warranty, it seems high for covering just the TV.

Has anyone had to deal with them since they went out of business? I'm finding the people on their warranty phone line to be worse than useless since they're now asking me to fax all sorts of shit to them that I just don't have.

I don't know about your particular extended warranty. I do have some experience though.

I had a printer that took 18 months to get back from warranty with all sorts of excuses like your folks are experiencing now. At the end of the saga we got a new printer that had much lower specs than the one that broke. I also have a friend that has been waiting for six months for the warranty company to fix his broken plasma.

To me it sounds like they are just trying to get rid of you with a quick excuse. The only thing you can do is constantly hassle them to fix it and stick to your guns. Eventually they will cave and give you what you paid for.

I've never had trouble with manufacturer warranties, I usually get a two week turn around time. It's just the "extended" type.

oh yeah, the "extended" thing which "extends" the price quite a lot. I think it was around 400$ for my tv, 400$ for shitty ass service that you MIGHT need? Total ripoff, manufacturer's warranty is enough

Both my folks' TV and mine died with the same symptoms during the manufacturer's warranty. Both TVs were the same make and model (Samsung LN-T4665F), but mine failed after six weeks of ownership; theirs died a little over a year into it.

Still fighting with them... They paid nearly $1000 for a five-year warranty on just the TV, according to the shitbags at Circuit City. There's no way that covers only the set.
