TMNT is insanely hard, beatable, but still, almost impossible. The Technodrome part is sick.

Battletoads is really, really hard. I only finished twice, one on the NES, and one on the Genesis. Both times i had to disassemble the controller for the orb/balls race.

Ninja Gaiden I gets pretty tough near the end (Stage 6-1, iirc).

Silver Surfer is pretty damn hard too.
Jackal gets a little hard on the last levels.

And MM1 is indeed pretty hard.
probably the hardest of the NES ones.
