My old P4 1.5ghz did too well enough though COD4 wouldn't have had a prayer. The hardware was well into failing in a few ways, one being the clicking sounds of death on the HDD. It had to go before I got hosed. That's basically when I do the big upgrades now, death nell. I'm not against part swaps/upgrades though as that old thing got the ram doubled and quadrupled, cd->dvd, slow burner to a 52x, 32mb video card->64->128MB radeon, and various other crap too. It just was easier and served it's need. As you said the generational gap of the 80s and 90s is dead so why bother.
