Would anyone know the reason why my external HDD is suddenly not connecting with my laptop? Its a HDD out fo my old tower pc put into an external case, its been working fine for months and today it just will not appear in My Computer, it does come up with an icon near the clock to safely remove the device though. The My Computer screen has frozen a couple of times while ive been trying to get it to connect. It has all my music on it, like 60GB worth.

Try the external drive on another computer first so you can see if it's the drive or your computer that's the problem.

Check whether it appears in Disk Management (e.g under Computer Management). Look for any obvious problems.

You could also try booting from a LiveCD of Ubuntu to see whether that can pick up the USB drive OK...

And if it's not the drive, see if another device is trying to snake the drive letter, or is causing a conflict.

If you use it a lot, depending on the brand/quality they don't last that long. I've gone through 2 of them, with the same old IDE drive inside.
You can check the case, if you have another drive to put it in.
