SubjectWhat exactly is the attraction to "cave" shooters? new Reply to this message

I like Ikaruga, Gunbird 2, Giga Wing 1 and 2, and some other bullet crazy games, but I don't understand why so many people want these cave shooters. Sure, if / when I own a 360, if they were offered "Legally" on Live, I'd consider buying them, but I'm not going to get my undies in a bundle waiting for them or Time Crisis 4 to be added to MAME.

Even if they were playable, they're just more bullet crazy shooters, and aren't there enough of them in MAME as is?

Heck, I have 4 Time Crisis games and rarely play them, although I think my Time Crisis Playstation disk is dead.

Still, I have the Guncon 2 gun and can use it to play the 3 Time Crisis games I have, but I can't see what I or anyone else is missing by not having the 4th one in MAME, particularly when you can buy Time Crisis 4.

I guess it's PS3 only?

That about entirely covers the real luster of a CAVE shooter. I just can't get it either why some people love to memorize 1000 pellets of death on screen bullet patterns in a SHOOTER of all things...it's supposed to be about a bit of evasion and blowing the shit up out of everything tactically possible...not duck and cover and spray fire around as an after thought for points. Pre-cave stuff is more my speed.
