SubjectIornclad on Wii comparison new Reply to this message

Just downloaded Ironclad to the Wii today and decided to do a comparison between the Wii version and the Neo Geo CD version.

Graphics: For the most part they are the same. However I noticed that backgrounds and effects are missing when your plane uses a bomb. I think first boss is also missing a background as well. Not cool not cool at all.

Sound and music: Huge difference here: I always thought that Ironcald was Neo Geo CD only. The version they offer is the "cartridge version" what I mean by that is the sometimes superb CD sound track was converted to a midi format as is some of the sound effects. This almost kills the deal for me as the midis seem almost half assed.

Game play: The thing that sucks about a Neo Geo home system is that you only get 4 credits guess how many continues you get here (hint more than three but less than five). On the Neo CD version you at least get unlimited credits. Other than that controls are fine and it's playable.

Overall: This could have been done a lot better. There is no reason to convert the CD music and sound files to MIDI it's unacceptable. The missing backgrounds and effects is also a near deal killer with me. Missing backgrounds and effects are fine if your working on a new EMU. But for the Wii also very unacceptable. This game should have either a). spend some more time in development b). If there were emulation limitations with the virtual console been released as part a CD compilation where the issues could be addressed or c). not even been released at all.

Final score: D

And for saving me $10!

I hope the rest of the Neo Geo games aren't that bad.

I've liked the "CD/DVD" compilations I've purchased so far on the Wii, which is all of them IIRC.

King of Fighters Anthology, Metal Slug Anthology, Samurai Showdown Anthology, SNK Arcade Classics.

I didn't like the fact the Metal Slug Anthology did NOT support the Classic Controller, but it could have been worse...

The new and improved King of Lamers 2003!

No problem, my thing with professional emulation (games that you have to pay to play on XBLA or VC) is that once you put a product out there for sale then it had better be good with all of the major bugs worked out. Missing backgrounds and bad sound effects are fine IF your a freeware emulator developer trying to break into a certain console. But if your a dev or a major game company or a contractor for a major game company that is tasked with bringing a certain retro game then it had better be as close to dead on as possible.

Then again I tend to be a perfectionist especially when I do that pilot thing (and you really do not want to be around me in pilot mode as I would probably make Gordon Ramsey, and Simon Cowel cry like a bitch due to the expectations I hold for myself and others).

You would need usenet access to get them:

They run on Final Burn Alpha.
