Tonight's movie is World War III, a 1982 miniseries. I remember seeing it when it came out and thought it was damn good.

From IMDB:
Soviet paratroopers drop into Alaska to sabotage the oil pipeline in retaliation against a United States grain embargo. A skirmish occurs at a pumping station, lightly defended by Col. Jake Caffey and a National Guard reckon unit. A stalemate ensues while the possibility of World War III hangs in the balance. The danger escalates as the Russian leaders and the American President play a cat-and-mouse game.

If anyone needs links, I can provide.

I lived near Fort Campbell, KY as a kid so everyone I knew had family that was army airborne and lived in fatigues. I just assumed I would join the army and go fight the Russkies someday since that was just what the whole world was about.

And to think they got done in by their lack of an economy of all things. How has North Korea made it as long as they have?
