I think the fact people were pirating games on it while it was still being sold tainted the emulation scene a lot and made the scene look bad.
While I understand that downloading any ROM is copyright infringement, I don't see downloading ROMs for "dead" systems the same as downloading a game for a system that is still selling.
Again I know people will bring up the Wii's download section, and the many retro compilations, but I don't see them as the same thing, plus I tend to buy retro packs for systems I own.
I've also noticed the "arcade" games I own for the Wii have a few discrepancies between them and MAME. They're good, but not as good as "free" emulators.
