You asked this elsewhere too and as I said there Dragon Quest Rocket Slime would be a great start one to work from and not terribly long either.

Nostalgia I didn't hit on in my other post, but it's basically a generic Skies of Arcadia knockoff, never played it but read up a lot as I did want it at one time but it just fell to the side.
