You can buy gigs for dimes/nickels(?) on a home pc, but try to find something to mount in dash and store all your stuff for your car and that "magic" transition reduces your capacity by 80 or 90%, and quadruples in price.

I know you can MacGyver something, but since there is a sucker market there (like the speaker cable deal) car makers will exploit it to no end.
