SubjectEvery SF2 arcade game I've played must've been set to the easist difficulty. Reply to this message

After a long time of not having played the SF2 games I decided to load them up in MAME last night. Went through and made sure everything was how I like it in the DIP switches, left it on medium difficulty because that should be OK, right? The game literally rips you a new asshole on medium difficulty but I managed to get through. Today I finally caved and put Hyper SF2 on 3/easy, below that is 2/very easy and 1/easiest; on easy it still did cheap shit.

I've been in plenty of arcades where I was able to beat on the CPU opponent fairly well to where the game was boring so I'm guessing that they had the game on 1 or 2 difficulty.

Actually, back in the day I used to be able to sit through 8 hour long gaming sessions...now it's 3 hours and the head starts spinning...

I used to be able to tear through SF2 and SF2'ce without any problem.

Nowdays, i have to realy struggle to get past Balrog/Vega.

Using the default difficulty.
Perhaps i'm older, or just untrained ?

I'm not sure.. but it happens..

... Balrog/Vega and his team have been slowly learning how to fight better over the last 20 years. In just 5 more years, they will realise that 3D games like SF4, combined with 3D televisions and 3D printers will give them the capability to escape the confines of video games and take over the world

All the damn hand holding has made us soft. I've faced that problem many times when I fire up an arcade emu once in a while.
My new apartment building will have 3 MAME cabinets though, so I'm gonna try to get some practice back. :-)

All work and no play makes me..., well, you know the rest.

I think it's gotta have a lot to do with how games have changed in the last decade+ and we're so used to them now.

I bought the Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection a couple months ago, and while I always knew MK1 was difficult, I was great with MK2 back in the day. But then I tried playing it in the collection and all I did was yell at the controls. Back in the day, they seemed so fluid, but today I could swear they were nothing but jerky.

Then I go and play the 2011 Mortal Kombat, and everything feels right, even though it's still all the same (up = jump, down = duck, etc.) It's odd.

I vaguely remember MK2 had specific control idiosyncrasies to get used to. Basically didn't play in the same way as the SF2 series.

Nowadays I suppose things are much more responsive and standardized.

Even though I liked the MK games I reek at them.

I dusted off KOF99 on my PSP last weekend and had my hide handed to me in the first match. Whip decimated my team (Terry, Mai, Yuri) and even though I beat her with Yuri, she was too damaged to fight the next opponent.

Oddly enough I tried Guilty Gear ## Reloaded afterwords and at least made it through ~ 6 matches before being trounced. (I played May in that one.)

I was able to beat SSF4 on easy with a couple characters and even beat a 2nd boss, but lately I've sucked at it.
