opinions?

I really out of the loop about current gen stuff, but.. these new stuff really can't get me interested, and if there's the occasional game i interested, they are usually available for pc.

I know for sure that i'm not the target market anymore, but still, some stuff, like the used game block and the phone home frequently, bothers me, for some reason.

Big piece of crap. It's just a generic system that wants to do it all like a PC but masquerading as a console. To that I say who cares other than MS and xbox fanboys. Given the track record of their first system with narrow support on genre, and the second being a timebomb along with uniquely charging $50/yr just so you can use your full game you buy, they've never been on my buy list.

I've got a kid, lack of time, and enjoy older stuff more so really I'm going to attempt to stick with ONE system this go around at least for 2-3 years going forward. If I get a second it will be like this time around with the Wii, get a PS4 and get the 1st/2nd party exclusives and stuff childish developers won't put on Nintendo for nonsense reasons.

My opinion of Xbox live is that the dashboard now does all the things we wanted it to do for years. I probably use the apps as much as I game. Hopefully they know how to test for heat issues now. If Xbox one does all the shit they say it does, I'm kind of looking forward to it. I don't have a ton of time to game these days either, but I like the idea of having an entertainment hub. The only gripe I really have is that Kinect has so much potential to assist people with handicaps, that it's wasted on an entertainment system.

Maybe I'm just biased, because I seem to be one of the few people that never had my 2006 Xbox red ring. But I wouldn't call myself a fanboy. I'm just looking to see what I can exploit from the new gaming systems on the way. And I'm still starving for details of the PS4. As much of a jack off the Xbox one reveal was, they did make some big promises.

I have friends who have over 500usd of downloadable stuff on their 360.
And they won't be able to transfer to the new one.

I don't know really. I like to game, and i like to play some newer stuff, but honestly, my laptop connected to my tv via hdmi, with 2 dualshock3 controllers, is doing more than enough for me, including all the entertainment/streaming stuff.

That would piss me off. If the device is backwards compatible, you should be able to use the content you paid for. I didn't watch the whole reveal so I didn't see that point. There should be no reason Xbox, and Xbox 360 media won't work. But then again the newer PS3s removed backwards compatibility due to cost. I'm glad you brought that up, I'll be keeping an eye on that.

Different architecture is why it isn't backwards compatible. Either way here are my two cents.

Fuck... them... both. I must say the PS4 is more of a draw than xbox... but even then they both can piss on it.

Xbox added a great feature (loading games to HDD without having to ever use the disc again)... BUT they then say they haven't figured out how they would handle bringing your disc to another console... AND you have to pay a fee for used games. Go fuck yourself.

I am tired of this replay, DLC, half game, we charge you 14 times for one fucking game shit. Like I said to the rest of my friends... PC it is. I love console gaming... but I am tired of them trying to turn my game console into an all out HTPC.

Also... I would bet a lot on gold will be required to do ANYTHING worthy at all on the xbox, at least the ps4 will likely not do that.

Big one too here, they tout 8GB of memory, but only 5GB will be allowed towards the game. 1GB TV/background stuff and 2GB for always on apps... it's a whole bunch of greatness followed by utter shit.

Microsoft = apple right now. They didn't listen to what the customer wants, they told the customer what they will want. God I can't explain it with enough fucks... fuck them and fuck their shit. I would rather buy a Wii U.

This will be a great time to work through my backlog, and I suspect millions of others will do the same. Not backwards compatible is crummy, but I can live with that. But no used games and having to have it speak to "someone" for undisclosed purposes for no good reason is a deal breaker. I can't stand all the ads on the dashboard as is. Kinect being mandatory is about as well though out as ROB the robot included.

I am surprised that they made something this locked down, I can only hope they open it back up, but I am worried too many consumer's will just buy it no matter what it does because it is new.

Honestly, I think I may be done with consoles forever. With the advent of HTPC's and Steam's bigbox. I could see my solutions for a PC/HTPC/gaming rig being an all in one project, where I can control the content. Of course I would miss out on some exclusives... but honestly who cares anymore.

Games used to be very exclusive. You either had it or you didn't... now, I couldn't possibly find the time, ever, to play all the games I would like to. They make too many. So I can always find something good to play on the PC.

Exactely what i think.
First, i know i'm not the target audience anymore. I don't like and i haven't got the time to invest 30+ hours in a simple action game (assassin's creed comes to mind).

And i already use my pc/steambox as my media/entertainment center + gaming rig. Like i said, with 2 Dualshock3's on PC + hdmi output to my tv + steam big picture, i don't feel like i am missing out on much. Yes there's some exclusive games i'm missing, but really, fuck that. I already have more than i can play, i have like.. 10+ games i bought on steam that i haven't even installed. So why bother with some exclusive game that is a re-hash of something else?

I'll miss playing some of Nintendo IP's, because i grew up on those, same as SEGA making Sonic a Nintendo exclusive, sorry, this is still a mind-blowing sentence.

But yeah, fuck Sony and fuck Microsoft. I haven't bought a PS3/360, so i can easily pass on PS4/1.

Now, i MIGHT pickup a used Wii-U eventually, IF there's any good Metroid for it. Otherwise, i will just play through SuperMetroid again.

The reveal porting I saw said nothing about attaching games to X-box live accounts, and not being able to play used or borrwed games. Looking at how Microsoft handles subcriptions to Office now, I can see them going full blown retard to consumers about this. That bums me out because I finally like the current 360 dashboard. It makes a nice entertainment center for a bedroom, with Netfilx and Xfinity.

The Wii U just plain sucks. The only game I'd play on it is Arkam Asylum, and I already play that in 3D on my PS3. I don't care for dual screens splitting my focus. And I'd really like a good controller or fight stick instead of that tablet.

The PS4 is just kind of an enigma to me. The PS3 is still quite a system. What are they really going to give us besides a touchpad on the controller.

And thanks for pointing the things Microsoft didn't show in the reveal. I think I fell for it pretty bad.

I watched the PS4 event live, and I was very underwhelmed. What I heard was:
"Game developers wanted us to build a PC, not a console, so we made a PC and named it PS4."
After that, I didn't bother watching the xbox reveal. More of the same from what I've read, and with the added draconian DRM schemes and money grubbing bullshit. Fuck that.

Last console I owned was an N64. After I got a semi decent PC back in those days I never looked back. Sure, I missed plenty of amazing exclusives, but at this moment in my life, like you Tib, I have very little time to put into gaming, and I just don't have enough time to warrant investing in a console.

I've got my desktop hooked up to my 32" Full HD TV, sitting pretty with my wireless keyboard and mouse and from my latest count, my steam backlog, counting only the games I really have a great invested interest in playing, it would take over 300 hours to go through it all. And that's ignoring the dozens of more casual games I reserve for when I'm on my wife's laptop, the other dozens of games I've already played but would love to play again and my wishlist of games I haven't bought yet.

Before the new generation's announcements, I heard predictions that this generation of consoles would be the last. Honestly, I believe that might be the case. If consoles have become nothing more than brand-name PCs, I don't see the big selling point.

All work and no play makes me..., well, you know the rest.

If that PS4 is just a PC-4 I'll be waiting as long too. I hate to say I wouldn't get it because Sony finally in the PS3 era got its ass in gear and started having some honest fun 1st and 2nd party exclusives - like Nintendo. I'm in no hurry as I can catch up on the cheap.

I don't discuss my private life on here, never really have, but I do have a 19mo old little girl and with her going down at 8pm at night, her mom working until 6:30 and the kid up at 8 I'm worn the fuck out. I rarely get to play a console anymore, it's mostly handheld or too tired to bother and on the laptop/tv. I do have a WiiU but it needs the new console drought to end but even then I find it hard to use, not that I don't want ot, because it is a dedicated CONSOLE, not a wonder-PC wannabe. Mostly console wise I'm on the NES (I have a Sharp NES TV) or the SNES as the games can be picked up and dumped in 5-30min versus discs with that long to start or load times spread out eating away at my free time.

All I know is being on the clock 10hrs with the kid (3hr break for her nap) WHILE working at home wears me out. At least she's not hyper and loves Disney Jr.

With all that said that's why I'm not jazzed on this generation. Going from my old post and the new info coming out still on The One they couldn't give me one and get me to use it (I'd use the cash on old NES/SNES stuff probably as I'm saving up selling shit for Aerofighters and Harvest Moon currently.) PS4 will get a buy, when it's cheap ($300 or less) and I can enjoy the few exclusives for the most part. It's what I did on PS3 as I've got under 20games for it and many are line ups of sequels (Uncharted and God of War titles.)
