SubjectXCapture-1 (usb3 video recorder): much better than ExtremeCap U3 new Reply to this message

Sorry Roush, looks like February is going to be hardware month for me :-)

I recently bought the XCapture-1 (from the makers of the XRGB) to replace my AverMedia ExtremeCap U3 for capturing video over usb3.
The ExtremeCap was driving me insane with random crashes at 720p 60fps (which was supposed to be stable according to reviews/forum posts). I searched extensively online for a fix; people blamed the motherboard USB chipset but I happen to have one of the "blessed" chipset brands... so was none the wiser.

So in the end I caved and ordered the new machine. How well it works was a revelation... I can now record hours of video without looking back at my PC to see if the feed is still alive!
It also accepts much more inputs (including VGA) so in theory I don't need to use the XRGB when I want to capture. The video will always be in native resolution, but it's only a problem if I want to upload to YouTube directly. I should spend more time getting familiar with video editors...(picked up Magix Movie Edit Pro to have some nicer editing ability than VirtualDub)

Reading up on their other stuff, I think I may wind up going with one of these babies at some point, but the USB 3.0 solution looks cool as hell.

Hard to justify right now since I'm still getting OK use out of my Colossus, but it would be nice to have something that supported HD capture out of my PS3 over something other than component :(

I didn't think it was possible to capture from a PS3 using anything other than component. Well, at least not directly. I read some people using some sort of HDCP stripper to capture over HDMI. What is wrong with component?
