Mine was an Apple IIc. I picked it up (actually my parents did for me) in about 1982 after reading about all
the really cool looking games like Zork, Ultima, Wizardry and King's Quest that I couldn't play on my Atari 2600.

What was the first actual game I played on it?

Lemonade Stand

Lol

What was everyone else's first computer?

Mine was a commodore plus/4. The only kickass games you could play on it were the ones you wrote yourself in BASIC and stored on an audio tape. No floppies, just audio tape. Plus no computer monitor, only television hookups. Nice... very nice...

Sinclair ZX Spectrun 128K +3

It was the first (and last I think) Spectrum to come with a floppy disk drive, and apart from the games that game with it, I never once foud another floppy disk Spectrum game in the 3 months I owned it, so had to load games from tape anyway.

> Mine was an Apple IIc.

... Atari 800 XL around 1983 or so. My first game was Summer Games by Epyx, followed by lots of Infocom titles, but I spent most of my time playing around with AtariBASIC. I had already had some experience with Apple II's at my computer lab at school, so I was hooked.

My favorite computer to date had to be the ol' trusty Amiga. What a fine piece of modern computing technology... in its day. Still brings a tear to the eye when firing up a new version of WinUAE. *sniffles*

Thing had the green monitor and two floppy drives (and a whopping 128 or 256K of RAM!)

I remmeber playing alot of text-based games as well as this one game which was based on the Jungle King. There was also this other game I remember fondly where you had to smash bricks without dropping your wrecking ball. Ah, the memories. Too bad my father sold it before we got our first 486.

And it r0xx0red! Let me see... I had Thundercats, Thunderbirds, Back to the Future II and Dragons Lair - they were the games that my parents bought with the computer. I think I was 7... I was definitely 7 or 8 when I first got it. That was for Christmas...

And I remember that 2 days later, I was writing my first programs. I was copying them out of the manual (they were really AMAZING manuals!) and wrote several games. That started me on the path to where I am now... a games programmer! :)

Mine was a Sinclair ZX81, had 1k of ram and no loading device.
I later got a tape player that meant you could load games into the 1k, and then got the (WOO HOO!) 16k ram pack for it, which got so hot you used to have to put a packet of frozen peas on it to keep it cool, but it meant you could get more letters on screen at once :)

Computer #1 - A Franklin Apple-II clone with a light-green-on-dark-green monochrome screen about 3 inches x 3 inches embedded in the case. I'm still investigating what the model number was - maybe it was a "hacked" clone as well (it came with some pirated Apple-II software)

Computer #2 - TI-99/4A. Don't get me started talking about it, I won't shut up! First learned BASIC programming on this. :)

Computer #3 - Laser 128/EX (or was it the 128/EX2?) - another Apple-II clone...

So you can see where my parents' minds were... :)

Note: I don't believe system ROMs for #1 or #3 have ever been "dumped"...

Stiletto

P.S. Oh, and "Parsec" and "Montezuma's Revenge" on the respective systems - I was SO addicted to them...

Would love to play Microbes again... lol
Even though its just asteroids, that was the first game I was ever addicted to.

I still have it, and it's a lot of fun to program for ;)

The Acorn BASIC ROM was one of the best versions of BASIC around at the time.

My old school only just got rid of their last BBC Master back in 1994... PCs looked all shiny and futuristic in comparison, but I couldn't program 'em. Balls.

Yeah, 2600 was very limited. BTW, //c didn't exist in 1982...nor did //e.

My first computer was a //e, old BIOS, moved on to //c, used //e enhanced and IIgs v1 often. First PC I owned was a PCjr.

For the Franklin, boot basic DOS 3.3 and type:
BSAVE FRANKLIN.ROM,A$D000,L12288
copy the file to an 800K ProDOS disk on a IIgs and transfer it to a Mac. If it's a true-blue ][+ clone it should work. The Laser won't, it's a //c clone, 32K BIOS probably.

GS in 1985? It didn't come out until '86 :)

Wrecking ball...bricks...you mean "Arkanoid Revenge of DoH" ? I got PC version if you want, runs same speed on Tandy 1000HX (Turbo 8088) and a 5x86/133. And MAME emulates it too.

Later including a flaky 3rd-party 16KB add-on that'd develop a bad connection if you looked at it wrong. Woohoo.
