Subjectabout mac emus? Reply to this message

What emu would you recommend to run old mac programs?

I have BasiliskII which runs pretty good for LC+ games, but its sound emulation is rather limited (no sound in any game I tried). Some games (Dark Castle, Beyond Dark Castle) are not working, because they want a 1-bit color depth. And I can't change it either... weird. So, what other options do I have? Is there something with better sound?

I've got sound here.

You can't change your video settings in the OS, you have to change them in the options for Basilisk (sucks, I know). Go to the "Screen" tab in Basilisk II prefs and select "Direct X Full Screen" as your screen type, set your width and height then your number of colors (Black and White/1-bit is the second from the top in the drop down menu). That should do you.

Basilisk II is the best 68k Mac emu out there and its free, its really you best option.

Do you have full sound?
I have *some* sounds emulated, mostly system sounds. But no game that I have tried has sound (e.g. Stuntcopter). The documentation mentions that sound emulation is not fully implemented...

Maybe there's a new version, which one are you using? The one that I donwloaded from their site seems pretty old...

Not that bad... I prefer "outside" settings than in-emu settings, it makes things easier.

I did that. But it doesn't want to know anything. Maybe it's related to the ROM Bios, I'm using an LC ROM, maybe I should try to use a MacPlus one...

It's already much easier than Executor... that I tried long ago but found confusing and hard to use.

Well I get music and sound effects in all games I try. I haven;t tried all that many and they are mostly from the 94-96 era. Red Baron, Starbound, Prince of Persia 1 and 2, ect. They all have full music and sound effects.

Version 0.8 Build 142. Its the newest I know of and was made in 2000.

Thats probably the problem, I'm using a Performa BIOS and have the system model set as a "Mac LC/Preforma 575-578/25".
