SubjectName the computer, game Reply to this message

I've been watching ghostbusters tonight on cable, and suddendly had a flashback : I remembered playing a ghostbusters game on a "portable" PC in the late 80's / early 90's (though the game & hardware were probably older).

I'm pretty sure it was a Compaq; it was the size of a Hi-Fi speaker laid on one side if not bulkier, had a monochrome, orange-tinted LCD diplay (!?) which could slide up and tilt back from the brick, and a handle - though the thing was heavy as lead. I don't know where the keyboard hid, it probably slid under, and of course there was no mouse.
The game used paper-based copy protection (i.e when you need to refer to a paper manual to pass the first screens of questions), and I didn't understand shit, there were different play sequences, with rope swinging and wall climbing maybe, and the display killed my eyes.

Was the computer simply a very old IBM PC ? Or maybe a different architecture ? What game is that (probably Ghostbusters II, d'oh) ? Can it be played in an emulator ?

Thanks for any info !

Of all the GB games I know of (which is pretty much all of them) I can safly say that gameplay is not from any official GB game, it sounds more like a standard adventure/platformer game to me. As to the computer it ran on I have no clue.

The computer looks like an old XT. IIRC many XTs had either no graphics or a B&W "Hercules" card. If you had to run something called "SIMCGA.COM" prior of running the game, then it's definetely a Hercules... :-)

As for the game I would need more description, but I do remember that Ghostbusters II for Commodore64 starts with a sequence where you are going down a rope. Maybe the PC version too? I never tried it...

For anybody interested, it was that one :

Compaq Portable III - still looks badass. Now to find the game...

EDIT : game found too !

Any ideas on how to run it in an emulator that would allow me to force Hercules monochrome output ?

If possible, in orange :D

Personally I think you should spend that money on better medication, you need it.

I post about a Ghostbuster game he asked about and you respond to me with: "Jesus Christ, for that price I can get 2 great Dell laptops wtf". And this 6 weeks after my post, you can understand why I thought you were a little off your rocker. As for your moniter issue I would troll eBay, I;m sure someone there is selling.
