SubjectWin95 Emulator for WinXP new Reply to this message

I recently got some old win95 games today and they enjoy tossing errors everywhere. I used to the compatibity thing to get them to install finally, then had to move a couple of files over (dino2d.dll and dmix.dll) and something else. It then asked for 256color mode, which I told the compatibity wizard to do to, then it tossed around more errors and crashed out.

I once heard of an emulator that allows old win95 games to work perfectly on XP, but furgot it's name. Can anyone help?

But you can try VirtualPC, VMWare and Bochs. They work well, but expect sluggish framerates...

Alternatively, you can install Win9x on another partition and make your system multiboot, there are guides everywhere. Playing on the real thing is still the best you can do with most old PC games.

Yes you do need a copy of Win95/98 and install the OS onto the VirtualPC as you would a real PC.

Virtual PC seem to have more compatiablity for games and is alttle faster than VMWare workstation. (at least from version 4.0 vmware is now v4.5)

but network and feature wise vmware is better.

for your purpose I would try virtual PC.
