SubjectOk... forgive my stupidity... new Reply to this message

And I know this is way off topic, but it's about old computer games :) Anyway, I seem to be having a few problems with my old PC games (Namely King's Quest 5, Space Quest 4 and Day of the Tentacle) I can't get the games running with sound! (The music works, but who cares!) I mean, all of my fond memories of SQ4 consisted of Gary Owens insulting YET ANOTHER one of my deaths! And who could forget the Dr. Fred/Zed/Red Edisons of DOTT? Hehe. Anyway, what I want to know is: How can I get these old games to run with all the sound? If it matters, I've still got my trusty AMD-K6, 333mhz, 128mb ram PC.

Wow, I almost got into the CA spirit and wrote "No -nt- Retard" as the subject. ;)

What soundcard do you have and which OS? If you use Win2K, it's easy, get VDMSound and it all works... I know, because I was playing DOTT the other day with sound and even completed it in 5 hours... =)

If you're using a '9x based OS, and not using ME, just make sure you load the DOS sound drivers from the config.sys and the autoexec.bat

Its a soundcard emulator of sorts, you run it from the NT command prompt and it lets DOS apps use your soundcard.

I dont have the technical knowhow to explain how or why you need it, but you do need it :)

get it here:

Because NT loathes direct hardware access. The driver is an emulator that intercepts the hardware calls and passes them to the NT sound driver, AFAIK.
