Mine was a Sinclair ZX81, had 1k of ram and no loading device.
I later got a tape player that meant you could load games into the 1k, and then got the (WOO HOO!) 16k ram pack for it, which got so hot you used to have to put a packet of frozen peas on it to keep it cool, but it meant you could get more letters on screen at once :)
