I've never heard any C64 music since I never had one... apart from Lazy Jones aka Zombie Nation of course - but everyone keep on going on about how great it is. Rob Hubbard and David Whitaker and all that... what are the best examples of their work, to convince me it's not all blippy-bloppy stuff?

I suppose that if you don't like these, you won't like the rest.

Actually I don't agree with all of them, though.

Enjoy, anyway.

Some of them are crap I admit, but some have some really amazing synth sounds - it's amazing.
And some of them have to sampled sound, right?

But there also seems to be some synth drums, and obviously you can tell the synths are real, because you just can't fit samples that long into 64K...

Very interesting stuff, I'm sorry I never heard any of the first time round!

Erm, i'm hitting a 404 here...i actually had the exact same question as dave lignering for a while now, but i had no idea where to ask it :)

Dave - can you post the titles of the tracks you particularly like?

also: do SID -> MP3 covnerters exist? I don't think my RIO 500 plays SIDs :)

http://hvsids.c64.org

this is the LARGEST collection of sid tunes.

i had (have) a c64 and loved the music on it.

as for listening to then, there is a sid plugin for winamp, but i use delitracker for windoze and sidplay for linux (there is a windoze version too and a plug in for opera/ns/ie (not for ie5.5 or higher))

Who pissed in your gene pool?

Anything by Matt Gray, especially Last Ninja 2 and Tusker.
Anything by Jeroen Tel or Charles Deenen, otherwise known as the Maniacs of Noise. Especially Turbo Out Run (How many samples?!)
Ben Daglish - Last Ninja. System 3 (now studio 3 and currently beavering away on a new Ninja game) had some of the best music in games.

Agreed :)

Though wether it's the SID of the turbo outrun music i have, or just the sidamp player, i've never been able to get it to play right... about half way thru, it just sounds wrong for a bit. Anyone else get this? or recommend a better player?

Pete
