First of all, drop SidAmp. Use SIDPlay2/Win to render your SIDs to very accurate WAVs on your hard disk. Then, grab the latest LAME+RazorLame to convert them to MP3s. The good thing is that RazorLame has a lot of nice presets, so you can decide whatever quality/size ratio you prefer.
I think that all this is much more CPU-demanding than what you did before, but SidAmp and AudioCatalyst are not very accurate - or, if you prefer, the SIDs and the MP3s just sound bad.
