SubjectMSX Games! new Reply to this message

I found some MSX games in WAV file format.
If you have some hundred's of FREE MB's in your HD you can check this.
MSX Games
M.E.S.S. work fine for LTIME.WAV and LN4.WAV but for some strange reason
NOT Work with 30Duros...
To run these games :
MESS msx -cass ltime.wav
In the MSX Basic write:
RUN"CAS:"
Now if you don't care about your "ears" can hear near " CD Quality " games in
M.E.S.S.
BTW, M.E.S.S. don't appear to have a Monitor Off to disable the sound
output!
Only I care about old MSX games?
If anyone want I have more links...

sounds like tape images in WAV format....interesting...MESS is going to do MSX2 as well, right?
I still have a Chess game MSX2 tape.... I can 'dump' it... ;)

You can try the game with WOOM or NO$MSX they support some type of Audio Tape.
And if you can pass the game to DSK format!
Some games are TAPE only because of the memory that the Disk Drive need.

More than 1000 MSX titles are missing in the NET!
like:
WonderBoy II in Monster Land(MSX2 ROM)
Wizardry 3(MSX2 disk)
Terra Cresta(MSX2 disk)
GRADIUS 2(MSX2+ I not see this to!)
And lots of others...
Do you have a MSX disk drive?
If you have a disk drive connect to your MSX2 and the tape game work is probable that you can copy the game to disk!
If not you can copy using a PC and MSX or direct connecting the TAPE Sound system to your PC!
Exist soft's to copy tapes and cartridges to disk.
I copy a lot of programs to disk(much faster access).

Gradius 2 MSX2+? That doesn't exist.
I know there's software to copy tape images to disk, but this one's sort of protected....the regular tape>disk programs don't work, at least that's what I remember from trying it years ago....I can make an mp3 of the tape image if you want me to though....I know it's only a chess game, heh....

I know that the original Gradius 2 is for MSX and exist one EXCELLENT version for Sharp X68000!
The Gradius is ported for most platforms.
The F1 Spirit are for MSX but exist a version for MSX 2+.
The Golvellius and Laydock have special versions for MSX 2+ to.
Maybe the Gradius 2 for MSX2+ is a CRACKED version for Memory Mapper?
I know that most games are ported to MEGARAM or Memory Mapper both with SCC Sound chip from other games or a special SCC cart.
Do you try to copy this in a REAL MSX with disk drive?
If is a copy protected TAPE,maybe the game is TAPE only.
I NEVER see a chess game for MSX2(is this like a CHESS Board game)?
Most board games for MSX are not in the NET.
Well to you try this with WOOM or NO$MSX?
Maybe the next version of MESS work with this game!
CAN you take some screen shots of this game?
Who make this game?
At least, do you believe in the other games in my list?
By the Way, the SIM CITY IS or NOT release for MSX2?

I think you are talking about Nemesis '90 for the X68000, which is in fact a port of an MSX game, but not any Gradius 2 for MSX2+, but Nemesis 2 for the normal MSX. The X68000 game Gradius 2 is a port of the arcade game Gradius 2, and this game was NOT originated in the MSX computer.

For a review and comparison of both games, check out my site.

yup, that one's called Nemesis '90 on X68000....

> The Gradius is ported for most platforms.
> The F1 Spirit are for MSX but exist a version for MSX 2+.

That's F1 spirit 3D special, a 3D version, it's emulated by NLMSX. Did you know that there's also a gameboy version of f1 spirit?

> The Golvellius and Laydock have special versions for MSX 2+ to.

Well, laydock has many versions....There's a golvellius2 for msx2(+) and there's super cooks (parody on golvellius)

> Maybe the Gradius 2 for MSX2+ is a CRACKED version for Memory Mapper?

could be...if you use paramsx or nlmsx and set it to msx2, inserting nemesis2 will give you gradius2 and inserting nemesis3 will give you gradius episode 2 with some jap. text.

> I know that most games are ported to MEGARAM or Memory Mapper both with SCC

yup, cracked disk versions....also, some old games (among them nemesis1) were rereleased with SCC+ sound, and cracked for use with a normal SCC.

I can as well set up a little site about that chess game msx2... My site has been under construction for months now so I can as well use the space for something useful.... I've got some free time tonight so I can set it up...I know it's just an old chess game but emulation is emulation, and perhaps some people'll like it......besides, I'm curious myself to see if it runs in an emulator.
Tape emulation for MSX needs more support anyway IMO....it's pretty special in fact, kinda like cd emulation for certain consoles.... so even if there's a disk version of the chess game on the net I still think it's nice to have the tape version available.

as for sim city....I really don't know....kinda like the pool game konami was going to make (successor to computer billiards/konami billiards)....it should have come out after metal gear 2 sometime but it was cancelled.

BTW, you have an original version of snatcher????

to make things even more complicated: nemesis 3 on msx looks a lot like gradius 2 arcade, especially the first level (fire planets).....MSX2+ displays the japanese names of the msx nemesis games (and many other konami games)....yep, they have different languages built in in the cartridge..(a bit like that street fighter alpha labguages switch I guess, just to compare it to something everybody knows ;))..this causes the following:
nemesis2 is called gradius2 on msx2+ ....so there we have the mystery solved :)
nemesis 3 is called gradius episode 2 (and some japanese text)

another nice one: the msx versions have a different storyline (did the arcade versions even have one?) and it goes in the following order:

* nemesis1 - ivasion of the bacterions, ship is vic viper

* nemesis2 - invasion of dr. venom, james burton is the pilot of the metallion (your ship), he becomes emperor lars 18th after defeating dr. venom

* salamander - kind of side story: the zelos force attacks planet latis...this was predicted years ago. (you'll find predictions (they're a bit cryptic) throughout the game on secret places). our nemesis 2 hero james burton/lars 18th receives a call for help from latis....2 hyper space fighters ('sable tiger', pilot iggy rock and 'trasher', pilot zowie scott) are sent to latis to kick that zelos force's ass. Note that you need nemesis 2 in your second cart slot in order to succesfully complete the game (there's a good ending and a bad ending)....probably a commercial stunt from konami :)

* nemesis 3 - years have passed, but now the bacterions are back! They want to travel back in time to kidnap and kill baby james burton. You are his descendant (son probably), david burton, and you're going to travel back in time as well in order to prevent history from changing using a new type of ship called 'vixen' (there are four of them, each with different weapons). Travelling back in time means meeting some old friend (err enemies) again like the moai heads and dr. venom....uh oh!!! This game has 2 endings as well....you need a certain item...if you don't have the item you will safe history but get killed yourself. If you have the item you will succesfully complete the game.

pretty nice storyline for a shmup-series IMO :)

chess game msx2:
seems there are some problems; the tape is high speed (2400 baud I think, not sure, I'm not too technical on that), anyways, seems vmsx (yep, I know it's only msx1 but it should be able to read the files) doesn't catch it..... I haven't tested mess yet...there's also a tool on the no$msx site that should be able to read data from a tape and save it to harddisk but no luck with that either... I'll try some other things...

Yes, My SNATCHER and KONAMI game Collection vol1 are the ORIGINAL KONAMI games(KNIGHTMARE,KUNG FU,KUNG FU2,ANTARTIC ADVENTURE use the SNATCHER Sound cartridge) comes with another unprotected disk with King's Valley(Level editor version).
I buy for $150 used. But the Snatcher Sound cartridge is the only Konami really SCC cartridge for disk games.
The SD Snatcher you need to modify to RUN games.
The Snatcher is expensive but the GC's are only $50 and use the Snatcher sound Cartridge.
GRADIUS 2,F1 SPIRIT and other games for MSX1 are cheaper to!
I WANT the Namco disk with PACMAN and others.
Japanese music programs and one game use the Snatcher SCC to!(Not work with the SCC from MEGAROM games like Metal Gear 2 and others)
Exist some Music Drivers for OPLL(FM),PSG and SCC.Like the Japanese MSX Magazine MuSICA(17 sound channels) and MGSEL both excellent for play music's, even better than the original music from MSX games ...
SNATCHER,SD SNATCHER and METAL GEAR 2 SOLID SNAKE are some of the most expensive game NOW.
The original price of KONAMI games are from $45 to 95.But some people sell these games for 80-150.
They are a lot cheaper in JAPAN a 10 years.
I know two programs that use the TAPE INPUT.
One is for SOUND digitalization and another for SPECTRUM Analyzer both for MSX.
And OF COURSE these programs are NOT in the NET.

Hmm I think you didn't get a word of what I said =P the game for the MSX you know as Gradius 2 is a different game, and the arcade game did not originate in the MSX versions.
