SubjectatrKID steals news! new Reply to this message
Posted byhan man
Posted on09/27/04 10:33 AM

Hello,
at first I want to thank XTale who informed me about that inccident!

XTales website (http://aep-emu.de) uses a special automatatic linking system, thet replaces words like ZSNES,MAME,YAPE with links of the following form :

http://aep-emu.de/Web_Links-req-visit-lid-166.html

I used such a link in a Vg-Work post yesterday by mistake (atrkid dont worry, I dont have to credit posts I got from XTale and he dont have to give credits for news he gets from me) and today atrkid (new nick : vvipEout) used the same link in his YAPE post :

So the implication is, that atrkid is a stupid news stealer.

Atrkid, thats another proof of your incompetence.

'I love it when a plan comes together!'

I understand your issue, but for God's sake, get off of it. You can't steal news. You can report it. If you've got issues with proper credit on scoops, it's time to step back from the computer, go outside, take a deep breath, and kick yourself in the nuts. This is a stupid gaming website, not CNN. And if it was, you'd realize that breaking news is largely inconsequential in terms of viewership. In the communication age, news is global in seconds. People will visit sites they enjoy, regardless of who got there first.

You do a good job with the news. Keep it up, and don't worry about everyone else.

I think CNN should own the exclusivity on all the 9/11 news... Btw, I've done the fake news things to you 8 times here before too... :)
Remember when you got fired and were copying those "exclusive news" that got removed afterwards? heh.

And btw, since when is linking to a site with a whatsnew.txt considered lame? :)

Btw, nice job spamming #zodiacgamer #emuholic and #gp32dev ... it's not like i'm really in those places anymore, so you're like bothering people for no reason. i quit those sites 6 months ago.

You must have thought you were replying to hanman, or someone who actually posts news.

Reporting news (even from other newssites) and crediting them is one thing.

Cut & pasting is another.

Baby wanna rattle?

Every lame emu news site out there from here, to vgn, or whatever webcOPI's sites from everyone else. It's not like the news is done by paid sponsors and you get compensation and shit like tv commercials.

God grow up...the five year olds I teach basic learning to act more adult than you did in this thread.

Unless you're an emulator programmer releasing news, you're always cutting and pasting. Whether it's from another news site or direct from the emulator site is irrelevant. No editorializing or additional research is being done. It's a simple ticker-tape. News is not exclusive and is not owned. It's fact.

So why the heck don't they just fill the frontpage with a bunch of tiny little HTML IFRAMEs, each containing an RSS feed, from each of the emu author's sites that the emu news site in question covers, listing the newest released version, with a hyperlink for the "changelog"/"whatsnew" file. Hey, the entire job of being a newsposter could be eliminated and automated! Then we wouldn't have to read about this jr-high drama act.

Maybe I'll make an "emunewsdrudgereport.com" site like that. Or maybe not. Feel free to use the idea though.

They own the copyright on their news reports and you're not allowed to rebroadcast or copy them without permission. They get news in from agencies and other broadcasters which they have recipricals with.

So the next time a MAME version is released it's fine for everyone to report it. What you're not allowed to do is copy and paste the report from another site. You can say you don't care that you're doing something illegal, but thats a different stand point to trying to justify yourself.
